Before i bought my first of 3 imprezas i used to have a Fiesta turbo for 4 years. The car was heavily modded and was a lovely little car. When the time came to change the little thing for a bigger car i wanted to get an escort cosworth. At the time i was looking (three years ago) the cheapest cossies were around £18,000 for something decent. Also there werent many around that hadnt been stuffed or boosted to 300+ bhp. Due to my fiesta going pop and the replacing of the engine and the turbo i didnt fancy taking on a chipped car again.

It was then that i started to look at imprezas. There werent the millions that there are now, and the early ones looked crap in standard form, but they were cheaper than the cossies i looked at, and the majority had no aftermarket chips. I relucktantly went down the impreza road as i had set my heart on a cossie. After adding some kit and painting the non colour coded bits i was left with a car that i thought looked as good as the cossie, and went faster (240 standard not including the exhaust and filter) and was more reliable.(only thing that went wrong was syncro in second gear)

Would i change back from imprezas to another rs? I would have to say yes if ford brought something out that was in the same mould as the escort cossie. If there was a couger or puma cosworth that was in the same leagues as the P1 i have now, id be tempted to change over when my car was a bit older.

I have a FRST @ the mo and must admit if i was to "upgrade", a Scooby Turb is only Insurance Group 17. Aswell as being easyier to get a good quality second hand one at a decent price(Escort Cossie-eek)! A decent second hand Escort Cossie is just too expensive for me(bought a house)& attracts too many @rseholes. Although i still think it looks the dogs kn@D Mind you the amount of ££££'s my m8 spends on his scoob ill be with my FRST for a while yet no bad thing as you get a lot of "bang" for your buck as they say.

had a series 2 escy turbo from 97 to 99 then baby came along and moved to 1.8si 5 dr escort then 2.0sri vectra then to my my01 scooby which i love but............................................... .............. my second car will be a imperial blue escort cossie within a year gauranteed and i will get rid of the wifes micra lol but certainly keep the scoob

i had fiesta rs turbo prior to my my 97 uk turbo, and only had fords before that. was looking to buy an escort cosworth when i got the scooby, but the insurance was almost HALF the price of the cossie(only 24 at the time).don`t reget the scooby one bit although my dad call`s it jap-crap. would i buy another ford\rs? yes if they brought somthing 4wd out like an escort cossie, and was`nt stupidly priced like racing puma. the current ford range is crap nothing that you could call sporty,and the focus rs is fwd so say no more and probably too expencive for what it is, when you see honda civic type r`s for 16k.

I did own a 2wd saphy cossy befor my first scoob , it was great to drive and certainly tought me to respect powerfull cars , it went sideways at every possible chance . I certainly missed the torque of the cossy when I got rid of it but did not miss the running cost

1997- Escort turbo series 1- My first quick car, although standard'ish, great to drive. Bit too old though and the heater smelt of curry!

1998- Fiesta turbo- Bought it standard, got bored and chipped it up to about 170bhp, which felt very quick when in an ickle fiesta. Blew the turbo, which meant i had to get my hands dirty, whilst lying on the floor on a freezing january weekend, which really pi55ed me off. The car never felt the same afterwards, and then blew the new turbo (pants recon!). Got pi55ed off with the sight of turbos so.........

2000- Escort Mk5 RS2000- Nice reliable, economical, comfortable car.........for an old man maybe! Far too boring after owning turbo'd cars for 3 years. Sold after 6 months for what i'd paid for it.

oct 2000- MY00 Scooby- WOOOO HOOOOO, never looked back!!


My mate bought a 380bhp Escort Cosworth roughly the same time that i bought the scoob. Its obviously quicker, but not 160bhp quicker. Its not a touch on the scooby, to drive, although i do like the kick from the big laggy turbo (3400RPM=100BHP, 3401RPM=300BHP!).
The thing is, its now 10 years old and keeps breaking, so he's had enough and looking at getting either a Scoob or an EVO.

I had a Mk 1 RS2000 (blue on white) - bought it when it was 6 months old, kept it for 9 years.

I also had a 3-door Cosworth for 11 years until I bought the STi.

Loved 'em all.

I have just come from a series 1 RS turbo to a my94 wagon. The RS was 215bhp and was very quick, but the wagon is quicker. RS turbo's seem to break down a lot of the time with anything over 200bhp so it was time to get rid of it, hence now a wagon which was only £6000 and is absolutly mint condition.

I've owned a 2wd saf for several years which is running a stage 1 conversion (very mild). Fairly reliable and horrendous on petrol but worth it .

But....it's getting on now, it failed it's last MOT on welding which aint good. So it's gotta go, but what do i replace it with?

I'd LOVE an Escort Cosworth but i cannot afford 14k for a good one ....so it'll have to be something Jap, possibly a Scoob.

Although I will buy an Esc Cos as soon as i can afford one .

I owned a Mondeo 2ltr. Si which I had turbo`d by Power Engineering to around 200bhp I really liked this car and it was rare - only six were ever done. Unfortunatly the guy who bought it from me blew the engine, now that made me feel really sick as I cherished that car and had spent a LOT of money on it!
Although my present UK Scoob is better generally the Mondeo was a much nicer motorway car.

PS My choice was between a good s/h Escort Cossie and a new Scoob. I got the Scoob but I sometimes wonder??

I;ve owned my FRST for the past 9 years. Cars cost me a fortune. Mind you that includes rebuild to 220bhp, 3 turbos, new everything, 2 magazine features. I still refused to sell it when I bought my UK300.

I still have both. Nothing wrong with either car.

Scooby is more nimble and quicker around twisty roads (specially in the wet)
Cossie is much faster in a straight line and more fun to drive. (2WD and lots of horsepower!)

this was my RS2000. I sold it and got a MY99 turbo Impreza. She was pulling 163bhp when i sold her. not bad for a straight 2.0lt.

Verdict : You can'nt beat a cossie for pounds per bhp and in comparison a 330 bhp 2wd cossie is much more entertaining to drive.

Pure RWD loadsa fun, although the scooby acts like RWD when it's wet and the right foot goes down...

Then bought a BMW M3 evo which I sold after driving my mates scooby. The scooby gave me back the turbo grin factor.
Oh I forgot the Fiesta turbo which I kept for two weeks ( what a load of crap) too fast for its strength.

So anyway how dare Ford stop making these fine RS marques I wish they would develop some more cossies and soon ( i.e. not 2005 )

I can't wait to get a scooby! I've wanted one for about 4 years now, but will have to wait another 2 till I can afford a decent one. I've just traded in my old car for an Escort GTi, which I am very pleased with. I know it's not a scooby or a cossie, but it will do me for 2 or 3 years.
