The 1.8T will be 150bhp, front wheel drive.
The 1.8T quattro will be 180bhp with haldex four wheel drive.
I had a 150bhp 1.8T Sport around 1998 and I loved it, solid build, reasonable running costs etc etc.

I like the S3, with 225 bhp.
Very nice motor. Love that interior! Pricey though!

You can get anniversary edition golfs with 180bhp and FWD.

I used to own a '98 A3 1.8T Sport. Lovely car, well screwed together. Not one single problem with it apart from the w@nker dealers who looked down their nose at me because I didn't wear a suit'n'tie..lol!!
Reasonably quick, steering a touch vague though and a little bit twitchy in the wet. Nice turbo whistle when driving past a wall!
P/x'd it for a Mini Cooper S... Whatta mistaka ta maka.....!!
Also test drove an S3 when it came to replacing the A3, bit disappointed with it, didn't seem to have the grunt it should have and the steering seemed even more vague than my A3...bizarre... Nice looking machine though and very subtle.

The A3 was never sold in the UK with front wheel drive and 180bhp.

I drive an A3 1.8T Sport and whilst it's no rocket ship, it has enough guts to make overtaking easy and mtorway cruising relaxing.
It's a bit soft and wallowy for the "twisties" but is very well put together and good on fuel. On a 70mph motor way run, we can average 42mpg.
