Best coupe for 3K
Hi there,
What is the best large (ish) coupe for 3K?
Contenders as follows.
1. Honda Prelude 2.2 VTi.
2. Peugeot 406 3.0V6
3. Toyota Celica 2.0 GT
200SX looks a good bet but not sure that 3K would get me a decent one.
Thanks and all the best.
Martin.

Audi coupe? Older but classy, 3k for a plum one looking at pistonheads.
Corrado?
Classic 3 door Saab 900? Not a coupe, but nice.
Of your contenders, I'd go for the Prelude or try and get an extra grand or so for a 200sx.

Prelude is good, I just sold a 1998 2.5ltr V6 Ford Cougar for £3700 with 38k miles on the clock full ford history unmarked bodywork etc... Lovely car it was too. Id defo recommend one. Get one cheaper with a few more miles on the clock for about 3k....

Yeah, 200SX is a very motor. I like a car with torque so the 3.0V6 in the 406 appeals. The 200Sx with its mid range turbo punch also appeals. Not sold on the Celica to be honest although they do have ba good rep for reliability.
Corrados are nice but finding a good one for 3K might take a long time and as I'm carless at the moment I'm not sure I can wait (and travel all over the country!) to find a good one.
Not really sold on Saabs tbh. Too much Vectra in them.
Audi's offer good build quality and image but not sure about the handling. The coupe was based on the old 80/90 if I'm not mistaken.
Looking for something a bit different from the normal saloon or hot hatch. Something with good looks, good performance and handling (no point is having a car thats all show and no go!), practicality and decent reliability. Not really fussed about the badge, in fact I'd be quite happy with a non-premium brand at this price level because I'll get a newer car for the money when compared with a BMW, Audi, Merc, etc.
Fuel consumption and insurance not a major issue.
Thanks and all the best.

To drive theyre very smooth, faster than I thought it'd be too, a fair bit of grunt in it, very solid too, only had it for 1 year and loved it, very reliable. Id say go have a look at one

Fiat turbo for that cash maybe? Brisk but a bit fragile seems to be the verdict. Or an Alfa GTV?
French/Italian stuff ought to be newer for the cash I reckon.
