1999 focus 1.8 zetec tyres size
I have 17" OZ rims fitted with 205 x 40 x 17 rubber, which seem to be a little under tyred.
Can I get away with 215 x 40 x 17 without anything catching ??

205/40/17 is the recommended tyre size for the focus on 7"/7.5" wide 17's
you probably can get away with 215's, but again i dont really see the point unless you are saving some dosh getting the 215's instead of the 205's and they do fit without rubbing.
ffoc is your best bet for answers though.

PNB - What width are the rims?[/QUOTE]
The rims are 7.5,
With the 205's on, the rims are slightley exposed.
I know it's a Scooby forum & I should be asking the question over on FFOC, but the Focus is my daily workhorse, so the Scoob stay's at home.

215/45 17s are fitted to the ST170
215/40 17s are fitted to the TDCi sport
205/40 17s are not fitted to any Focus model
A lot of FFOCers prefer the 215/45 profile as it fills the arches better than the lower profile and gives better protection against kerbing,
If you lower the Focus on 30mm Eibachs it looks even better with the 215/45s. The ST170 is 25mm lower than a standard Focus from production.
