www.205gtidrivers.com is where I learned most of my info when I moved from Imprezas to 205's.

Let me know your budget as I'll soon be selling a red 1.9. Totally standard on the outside but has a reconned mi16 alloy block with twin weber 45 carbs producing a proven 170 bhp. Upgrarded bakes, new torsion bar, clutch, plugs, the spec is endless, basically everything is either new or reconditioned!
No rust and bodywork is totally straight, all electrics work too.


I purchased as a track car, but haven't taken it on the track yet as I need the money for home improvements. But if you're willing to shell out I'll consider selling my minter to you

Oh, insurance is on classic policy, so 250 quid, and that's with no claims as well being a a second car

yeah good cars, i'd not use one as a road car (i prefer mk2 golfs for that purpose) but for track cars they are supercool

I used justgtis when I needed a fill in car before finding my last 911. Bought one from them and given it was a fill-in car, got a bit carried away. Spent 1.5k on a nice 1.6, had fun, then got the heads ported and polished which made it fly. But fell out to a few issues, and ended up selling it back to them at £500. Shocking.

I would buy from them again as they do know their stuff, but I also had a few small issues with them with things they should have done but didn't - after some prompting they then did them so all in all not bad.

As the Scooby is going up for sale soon, as we're probably moving abroad, I quite fancy buying another one to tide me over between selling the Scoob and actually moving. Lot easier selling a 2 grand car than a 15 grand car...

I've preferred all mine as road cars to all the other stuff i've had, even the 1.6 I used to do 30k miles in a year

Just GTi's used to have a bad reputation on the 205gtidrivers forum, but I dont know why exactly - Ive never used them.

For insurance try www.firebond.co.uk - you can get a classic policy through them for peanuts!

And I'd agree, go for the 1.9!

The thing with the mi16 conversion is to get a sound block and to get somebody who knows what theyre doing to fit it. If the block is angled wrong you're looking at a rebuild!

I purchased the car standard apart from a mongoose exhaust system several months ago. There is a fat ream of paperwork with the car including the last half dozen MOTs. The previous owner was a mechanic and he changed the rear torsion bar (300 quid if needed doing again) and clutch.

I then had a few mods done to improve the performance by a guy from 205drivers by jonnie205 on there. if you look at his posts he really does know his **** in and out regarding 205s.(hes a rally driver and has done countless conversions like this) He had an alloy mi16 block (the light block unlike the heavier lumps of iron you get in some conversions). This lump was reconned by Paul Gardias and then fitted by Jonnie.

List of things Ive had done:

-Mi16 engine
-45mm weber carbs with brand new filters
-8v jetronic ignition distributer adapter, distributer and ignition amp
-cambelt
-water pump
-8v flywheel
-top end gasket set
-head bolts
-oil filter
-facet red top fuel pump
-drive shaft seals
-engine oil
-fuel lines
-307 big brake conversion with new disks and pads
-srf race brake fluid
-magnecor ignition leads
-new distrubition cap, bosch plugs and new battery
-fully set up by www.northamptonmotorsport.com
-full graph showing 170 bhp and fully rr'd set up
-auto bonnet (auto bonnet have bonnet bulge in the middle)
-manual switch for fan

The car also comes with a spare gear box and other bits and bobs.

The inside of the car is in good condition. Theres an upgraded sound system and a cd player. The drivers chair is slightly worn with the material lifting in a few places. To be expected and a cheap fix if it bothers.

Ive had the car on ramps at 2 different places and they comment on how clean the car is underneath with no sign of accident damage or rust etc

Theres MOT til July 2006 and 10 month tax. The car has covered 147000 ish miles, but everything has been replaced quite recently.



The only thing I havent done is strip it for the track, so everything is still in place. All the guages etc work and everything electrical works. The bonnet needs a Tcut which Ill get round to doing soon, other than that the red paintwork is nice and shiney.

I've spent a fair wedge on this so I'll be looking to recoup as much as I can and still be realistic about selling. Ive seen similar on Ebay go for over 3,200 ish. All the work has been carried out in the last few hundred miles, and I havent as yet tracked it. So I think a price of 3k is fair for such a good example.

This may or may not sound a lot for a J reg 205, but the car really is it tip top. Youll no doubt find mi16's cheaper than this, but it's not something I'd want to tool around in! For advice it's best to look around different forums. But the general rule of thumb is you generally get what you pay for with 205s.

If you've no quams about comfort and looking for a car to go on the track too I'd definetly recommend a rally car, noisy bouncy a bugger to get in and out. probably quite beaten up bodywork and little done power wise but will be well maintained mechanically and a lot spent on handling.

It's cost me about £8K to build a competetive car, these go for around 4K 2nd hand. Unless you've driven one you just can't know how much better they handle than any road car and are just generally amazing. Plus you don't need to worry about things like stone chips and can take shortcuts over all sort of horrible surfaces without a care in the world

It's just impossible to drive sensibly though.

I got a F Reg 1.6 GTI with 1.9 GTI engine two weeks ago for £500 with 9 months MOT and 4 months road tax. Did a trackday last weekend at Knockhill - never missed a beat - F&cking brilliant cars and the best handling - ever!!!

i know of a H reg steel grey non sunroof pug 205 1.9 thats a road rally car, got some good bits on it, sorted suspension, gearbox has 1st, 2nd and 5th out of a 1.9 and 3rd and 4th gear out of a MI16 with a MI16 4.4 final drive with a quaife lsd, bias peddle box, full safety devices cage and sparco seats, plumbed in fire extinguishers, sump/tank guards and its rac log booked, £3,500

i got given a 1.6 C plater...

only got 54k on the clock... needs some weldin for a MOT and other bits but i just use it at santa pod.. stripped it all out and tow it behind my landrover on a trailor, great fun at run what ya brung!!

I'm probably the wrong person to ask as mines all hybrid stuff

Rebuilt alloy Mi16 engine, Piper 268 cams, flowed/ported head, Emerald mappable ECU, Suzuki GSXR throttle bodies, Magnex, 4-2-1 Longman manifold, Grp N mounts, GrpA gear rods, stripped interior, Corbeau buckets and more.

Engine RR'd at 181bhp on std induction, so nearer to 200 with the ECU/Bodies.

Had my first drive in it 4 weeks back and its stupidly quick, but the rear beam was seized after being stood so long, so its awaiting its new suspension now.

The best mod for them is ECU and bodies, and KMS stuff is good and cheaper than Jenvey etc - will cost you about £1500 and take you up near 190bhp.

Sean's (rb5_336) is even more extreme than mine though, check his out for inspiration
