Ford Focus TDCi (115bhp) opinions
Hello,
Scoob has been sold and now looking for a different type of car but not a crazy fast one.
What's the general opinion on this diesel engined Focus, are they any good, whats the handling like etc? - Do they go wrong much?
Thanks
Frank

maybe i'm not being much help here because i've not drove the diesel version but i did hire a new shape once and did a fair few miles in it. handling was extremley good for its fwd chassis and possibly the easiest car i have stepped into and drove straight away. everything is really light an to hand.
I've heard the diesels can be quite punchy and as an all round economical car
pretty good.

Excellent cars. Engine good, handling brilliant. My sister has one which I sourced for her. 50mpg average fuel economy, plenty fast enough, comfy and its not broken anything. She's put 35k miles on hers in two years, its now on 60k, and she can't fault it still.

Cool, I've actually not driven the previous shape I asking about here but I have driven the 'new' 1.8dci which I was VERY impressed. I hope the older one is similiar to the new one.

I own a Mondeo with the same 2 litre TDCi engine, 115 bhp version and it's got just ove 90k on the clock and all it's needed is a new fuel rail, couple hundred quid all in.
Fantastic engine IMO, it's the first diesel i've owned and very impressed, plenty of torque for overtaking etc

if you get one, make sure its the 115bhp, same engine as a mondeo, very punchy and economical. Dont go for the 90bhp version, its total s**te, slow, unreposive, and handles like a barge, there is absolutely no way of telling if the turbo is working, there is no pull or response from it at all, had one for work for 6 months and it was easily the second worst car i had ever driven after a 307!!!

Have a 90bhp Focus TDi as a secound car and it does have its good points aswell as bad. Fuel economy isn't exactly brilliant for a diesel, reliability is a bit suspect I have had the same electrical fault reappear 3 times now ( it is about 5 years old now). However it has a fantastic chasis and IMO is one of the best handling family hatchbacks out there. Performance is not elelctrifying but there again it's not bad when it's in the power band. Is the newer 115bhp TDCi any good as I am considering upgrading to one.

We have the old 115 1.8 TDCI Duratorq engined one and its really good. Qutie happy on the motorway etc and not bad round town. Currently showin an average MPG of 47.1. We've got the Ghia which has all the toys, like heated screen climate control etc. Had a couple of small problems but nothing major and all covered by the warranty.

I've got a Zetec TDCI 115 (last of old shape) and I've been more than happy with it. I've only had it 5 months but I've done 10000 miles and not had any problems. The Zetec is the one to get if you want firmer suspesion - I think it is 20% uprated over the LX/Ghia models. Its still very comfortable to drive.
I previously had the same car but 1.6 petrol - the Diesel is far better to drive - performance is excellent.
Fuel Economy isn't quite as good as I expected - tend to get around 430 miles before the light comes on. Not worked it out exactly but getting low to mid 40s.
Plenty more info here:-

I got mine from Motorpoint - they have plenty in stock at the moment :-

If you get a Zetec try and find one with Climate Pack (most have it) which gives air con, heater mirrors etc.
Cheers,
Ian.
