cat7,
I've got one and the running costs aren't too bad. The real killers are the Inspection 1 and 2 services that seemingly require the owner to donate an arm and a leg to the dealership.
Mine averages 27mpg with a mix of driving. Can't grumble at all. It sounds fantastic above 6k rpm and you'll very soon find yourself travelling very quickly if you keep your foot down for more than a few seconds. Love it to bits.

I also went from a STI > Evo > 330D > m3 cs.
I found it takes a bit of getting used to after driving turbocharged cars for a long time the powerband comes a lot later.
They are deceptively fast to the point where you really do need to cheak your speed to realise how fast you're going.
Way way better build than the jap cars but the price reflects that.
I can't understand why people say they are boring, I find mine anything but after all 340bhp going through only 2 wheels instead of 4 is entertaining at the best of times, and in this weather even more so.
More economical than the Evo or STi. Clutch and gears seemed very heavy to begin with but I'm used to them now.
Real quality refined car to drive.
