1/ They arent making any more.
2/ They are an Icon
3/ Lots of 30 somethings lusted them as 15/16 year olds and can now afford one even if it is dearer than it was new, that one does look exceptional though.
4/ Most (and they didnt make that many 3 doors) were crashed, thrashed, raced, rallied, stolen rolled or burnt out. Saphirres are still not silly prices, mainly because they dont look at all special compared to the winged monster.
5/ Essex

i know what you mean but its an extremely small and specialist market that are after a car like that. any concourse legend performance car fetch big bucks... m3 s, mk1 golfs, mk1 rs escorts can all fetch silly money.
ya never know i may get 20.000 quid for my bug eye in years to come

Auto - I dont agree, i have owned numerous performance cars in my time & i would say hand on heart that my saph would have wiped the floor with my MY04 sti. The saph isnt standard though
Infact the STi seats are better

Seriously thinking of an escos at the moment. Have looked into it quite a bit, would mean a return to the Rs fold having left it over 8 years ago. Seem a bit expensive for what they are, but I love the look, as as you can see from the left I have owned some fairly nice Imprezas
Can't believe the point of having a concourse car. What's the point of having an iconic car yet spend 99% of your time with it anally polishing the most obscure of parts. I'd like to buy one of these cars and in front of the owner to donut it in great big muddy puddles.

If you think Impreza's go through engines try a Cosworth!!!
I know 8 people who have, or have had Cosworths, and each one has at least 1 engine re-build.
Would love an Escort Cosworth though!!!

Always had a soft spot for Sierra & Escort Cosworths!
would love one of either, but the missus would do her nut if i spent all that money on an 80's or 90's ford! Little does she realise just how special they are!

the main problem i've seen is people go "oh look the actuator right at the top of the engine bay. i know lets hike up the boost without doing anything about the fueling." then they wonder why it goes bang and they've got melted pistons on their hands.
they are easy to work on and you can rebuild them if your handy with a set of tools and can get your hands on the workshop manuals. been there done that.
would love a 3 door or an escort cossie. would i sell my scooby to get one............. no.

RS escorts and sierra cossies are purely and simply iconic cars from the day they were first sold up to today and the lack of depriciation reflects this.
There is such a massive following of the RS's that this money can be fetched and this particular Sierra is as good as just driving it off the factory line back in 1986/87. Also, I would imagine the owner would want it to go to a real enthusiast, the high price will only attract this type of person.
I must admit that I still have RS blood in my veins and when a 3 door or escort cossie passes me on the road I watch in awe.

Plus, it probably has a lot to do with the fact that when Ford made the Cossie, it kept the numbers low as the factory could not make a massive amount of engines. And, dare I say it, when Ford changed the Cossie they did it after a good few years and kept the image strong. Unlike Subaru, who introduce a new model every year, loads of other incentives and tons of other reasons why our cars depreciate like crap and are thus worthless in a few years time...

She is seriously nice, and loads of work gone into that.
I often go to the RS days, really good events, and some stunning motors.
love the 2 door cossie's my wish list would include a Rs500 in the garage

as said a sierra/escort cossie is an iconic car and demands attention and respect wherever it goes. The brilliant thing about them is the simplicity, the engines can be tuned to monster levels but never become innaccessible (spl).
scoobies have the advantage of modern engineering thats a given...but would still have an escos
if ford partnered with cosworth againn and stopped producing these watered down ST's we'd have a world beater on our hands. Ah well i can dream

just seen the link and this guy is selling his cos privately for 20k, i actually think thats cheap for what he has....
my personal favourite 3door par a few rs500's. Anyone interested in proper cosworth ownership should look no futher than this one!!

Getting a bit nostalgic but I can still remember reading the edition of Motor Sport that featured the first ever test of a 3dr Sierra Cosworth (in Black and looking like NOTHING we'd seen before).
I've never forgotten that article and always vowed to own one at some stage.
