Default Need suggestions for a new car

Been running a MY04 WRX for 18 months now and I'm looking to change it for something cheaper and cheaper to run. Initially I bought it to replace both my old cars - 8 year old A4 and a modified MX-5, thinking it'd be fun and have room for the kids, but I can't get rid of the MX-5 and so need a 4 seater. Nothing wrong with the WRX, it's a very good car but the initial excitement has worn off and it's now just used for trips with the kids or going to Tesco's. Can't justify the running costs of the depreciation of it sitting on the drive!!! Looking to spend about 4-5K on something with 4 or more seats that I won't hate driving and will be reasonable to run i.e. 30mpg, gp12 or under insurance. Any ideas?

Also, any idea what a sept 04 54 reg Met Black WRX is worth? Excellent cond with 15k miles. UK spec parallel import from europe plus alarm upgrade and obviously FSH and warranty?

Well spotted, but I can't get rid of it because I don't want to - will probably keep it forever now. If I'm paying for 2 lots of tax and insurance I want the 4 seater to cost less to run.......

You can pick up an early example of the newer shape A4 (2001) for about 6-7k, or less for a very-high miler.

I recently got a 2002 2.0 A4 and its been great, very comfortable, cabin is a great place to be - build quality is very solid. 36mpg overall, with 40mpg+ on a run. Handling is surprisingly sharp so you can have some fun. GP12 too I believe. Hold their value very well too.

What its worth and what it'll sell for are 2 different things... neither will be nice to hear however...

Sorry, got a thing about Rovers. It'll be Jap or German whatever I end up with.....

Ballpark figure then, what it would actually sell for in a private sale ???

I think you'd be looking in the region of 15k

Really? actually thought it would be less than that - Euro parallel import remember, UK spec but not UK supplied. Think you can buy them new from motorpoint for 16k though I paid more for mine. Was expecting someone to chime in with 11k or something really low like that - would be happy with anything over 13k I suppose....if I can decide what I want to replace it with.
