I had the old shape with the pop up lights a few years ago.
Great car, great fun, good handling once you got used to rear wheel drive.
Don't know if this is an issue on the newer shaped ones, but the old manual gearbox was weak. Auto never suffered as much though.
As GCollier says, very under-rated.

2nded! I owned one (in 1.8 guise) for 12 years before the scoob. 0-60 around 7secs as standard but plenty more power available for little money. Handling? Don't try to drive one fast (around corners) straight out of the box these arent scoobs and will reward a lack of driving skill with an off into a tree However, funfunfun if you take the time to learn

I had a P reg touring in dark blue a few years back. Cracking cars and the only thing to go wrong was the turbo gasket. Apart from that I was having lots of fun doing drift days. I'll see if I can dig out some pictures.

Just sold my 'x'plate 200sx to buy a sti wagon, it was a great car to drive, really comfy, it was a bit noisy in the cabin due to a full de-cat i had done.
But things change and she had to go.. as she drove away

Look mainly for accident damage due to **** out action, alot are rapped round lamposts...
Being jap they tend to be quite reliable....
For 0-60 time was in the mid to low 5 sec mark (traction allowing) and would power all the way to 152 (my top speed before chickening out) with the mods i had done.
All done on private airfields..

What mods did you have and what figures did you get?

6.5 to 60mph sounds about right. Once rolling they're similar performance to a bug-eye WRX.
They handle superbly. They don't have lots of grip and their tail happy nature could catch out a novice driver who wasn't expecting it, but they're one of the most beautifully balanced cars available. Anyone with a modicum of skill could hold one on opposite lock all day long.
I've owned some pretty expensive metal since the 200SX and in terms of smiles per £ none of it comes close.

i had one from new at v registration ,,flippin loved every minute in that car ,it was emerald green ,good straight line performance ,awesome on the motorway just foot down in 5th and it would pretty much take you straight to whatever speed you wanted.
Handling was fantastic fun ,front drive boffins may call it scarey but take the time to learn it and its superb, you can steer them with your right foot almost, good build quality, totally reliable, easily tunable for big power ,i agree one of the most under rated cars on the road ,deffinitely quicker than a bugeye imo.

I test drove an auto one recently (need a daily hack) and was not that impressed. might just have been a crap one though...
front end felt very light at speed. (80mph)
brakes were very crap.
Suspension was pretty soft
went fairly well in a straight line
build quality wasn't brilliant inside.
Felt older that a T reg!
This is coming from a blobeye STI PPP though...
Bought a BMW323se (boring - but does the job) must be real high spec because it has working indicators

Try a couple and more importantly try a manual!

Really depends on what you want, compromises you are willing to make and how much money you want to spend
As a standard car they are a very soft option but to mod is easy and pretty cheap... I wouldnt even consider one as a "performance" car unless you at least added:
Adjustable shocks
Decent brake pads
Walbro / uprated fuel pump
Decent tyres (very very important)
Laser alignment
Boost guage
Boost controller (for lower spec, something like a bren device for 40 pounds is cool)
Exhaust
This little lot from apex performance is actually stupidly cheap, especially when you consider the cost of the cars, but it will give you a very entertaining and very quick car There are also plenty of modded cars for sale for a very reasonable cost, dont let them being modded put you off, when looked after properly they are hard as nails and TBH I would go for a modded car, there are plenty on the sxoc.
I've had my S14 for about 3 years now and love every single minute of it, I went down the route of getting it as close to a track tool as possible whilst still being able to do 15-20 k miles per year of daily driving...
Above all these cars are FUN
Ask if you have specific questions

i had a 200 for almost 3 years and loved it, they're great fun to drive but youve got to know what your doing or they will seriously bite you as the lad i sold it to found out, two months after buying it off me he crashed it into the barrier at the local library
well i did warn him when i sold it to him it was comfortabley running 350bhp
now it needs a new bumper bonnet, grill and front mount
thankfuly for him the brand new front mount intercooler took the full force of the smash an the saved and structural damage
go for the 14a as they hold their value more, either go fo a low mile standard or a well looked after modded one, as chances are it would have had the bottom end been rebuilt so would be practically brand new with all the go faster bits already added
check out the www.sxoc.com
plenty of cars on their and if they are in the club they would have been well looked after
