Default Diesel Golf or Leon dilemma?

Im after a diesel and have looked at a new model golf gt tdi 140 and the new leon tdi sport 140 but am unsure which to go for. My heart says the Leon in black but my head says the golf.

Now to complicate matters:-
I have a choice of 4 golfs all done about 5000 miles and all on 55 plate and all up for £15999 from the vw garage and they will offer me £10750 for a px on my scoob.

I have looked at 1 leon in black from a Seat dealer up for £14999 with 3000 miles and they offered me £10100 as a px. Another Seat dealer has a Leon in silver with 3000 miles on it and they will offer me £11250 for my car.

I tried playing one dealer off against the other to get a better px but it didnt work, and have failed at selling my car privately.

Help!

What should I do

The Golf seems better value there, altho' you don't say the price of the silver Leon. £350 extra for the VW isn't much - I'd expect used values to favour the VW by more than that.

Cost of change is better for the Leon but the Golf will almost certainly be worth more in 2-3 years time. However I like the Leon's looks better

Nothing to choose between 'em in running costs, it's the same car! Boils down to personal preference I suppose ... which dealer is nearer to your house / work?

Is it the old or the new shape Leon?

Either way, I think the Leon will depreciate quicker than the Golf over three years.

Then again, I just bought a 3 year old mk4 Golf TDI, which had depreciated nicely thanks to the release of the mk5 Golf!

Its the new shape Leon. The 2 Leons are both up for £14999 and are both ex demos. One of them is in black and one in silver, the difference being that the dealer that has the Black one (better looking imo) will only offer me £10100 for my car and the dealer that has the silver one will offer me £11250 for it. Is black worth £1150 more than the silver one?

Is the Golf going to be any better built than the Seat?
Is depreciation likely to be much worse with the Seat than the Golf?
The Golf will cost more to service and is a group 13 insurance as opposed to the Seat at group 9.

Seat has got the looks but the Golf has got the badge.

What would you choose?

Thumbs up Was in a similar situation

I also looked at the Seat and new Civic 2.2 diesel when I decided on my golf GT TDI.

Personal thing, but I preferred the interior of the Golf and externally the rear of the Seat looked a little awkward.

The clincher really was that I managed to pick up a new GT TDI 140 Euro import in metallic black with centre arm rest for £15k on the road. I waited all of 3 days to collect from an agent in Chelsea.

Had the car for 2 weeks now and am chuffed to bits with it (have previously had a modified MY99 Turbo and S2000).

Good luck with your choice - both great cars IMHO

I'd go for the Seat personally, probs the silver one, don't think the black is worth 1k plus

Just sold my 03WRX PPP and bought a Mk5 Golf GT TDi. I'm not missing the scoob at all (which is a major shock) and can not fault the Golf in any way, I'm v impressed with it
