BMW Z4
Thinking about getting one of these (3.0 version). Have taken a test drive and really liked it but I am still not 100% sure I want to change from my Audi A3.
I know there is a new model out soon and some make a case for the s2000 but has anyone get any experience of one owning the Z4?
Things I liked...
Roof down with the press of a button (no need to cover it like in the s2000)
Decent price (2 years old) with lots of toys.
Decent sized boot (not a primary concern)
Decent fuel economy (30 ish per gallon)
Insurance cheap (600/year)
adjustable seats (could not adjust the S2000 for height which was not so good for my wife who will drive ocassionally).
Any other suggestions for top down driving for circa £25K?
Cheers

Hi Saxo Boy,
So the roof is Ok just folded down without the cover put on? Does this damage it or cause any other issues?
I did like the s2000 but for that (even though the MPG was marginally worse, the boot much smaller, and the lack of the seat adjusting). Great looking and driving car and I could get a decent one for <25k.

Honda run the offical line that you should always use the cover as dust will get into the mechanism, etc. I use the cover about once a year and have the roof down all the tjme. Most owners are like me to be honest with only a few religiously using the cover and they do it for looks more than anything. When the roof is down properly though it sits near flush wit the car so you can't see it. You'd get a very nice example for <£20k! A brand new Euro import for £22k if you want new.

The only criticism I have of it, is that it in several areas it isn't that well put together which betrays it's Seppo origins although having said that it does what it does, very competently. My wife has has hers nearly two years now, which says something given that she changes cars more frequently than most women change their knickers.
The roof mechanism if far better than the Honda's and the cabin is less cramped and provided you get the Carver sound system, it's a pleasant place to spend some time although I reckon the wind deflector on the S2000 is better.
Personally, I'd stick with the 17" wheels which don't look as good as the 18s but give a better ride bearing in mind these cars come with the run flats which have the most unforgiving side walls going, which can sometimes get very uncomfortable. There's bags of torque until you get to sixth gear which I think is a waste of time but once you turn off the DSC/nanny aids, you can have some real fun on roundabouts as this has to be one of the best rear wheel drive cars out there for a bit of opposite locking which flatters even the most inept drivers, myself included, into believing theyr'e a driving God. Not as twitchy as the Honda in the wet either.
Don't get those bloody Xenon lights either - crime against humanity.

the 350z drop head is hideous id sting to the s2000 for the scream, the noise is incredable with a different exhaust on it. Plus the looks are easier to live with, not that the bmw is horrible but it might dawn on you one day. Id also consider a TVR Chrimeara, the noise is incredible, even when pottering. But dont drive it fast unless your in a straight line, cos a) they handle crap (we all klnow that) and b) ncap rating????????
