Default £4k car - impossible request?

OK, at the moment I run a 1.4 '97 Civic, which is great. It pushes all the sensible buttons, especially being cheap to run and reliable.

I've also got a '96 Mini Cooper, which I've modded quite a bit. Its huuuuge fun. Its in great condition, but is under-used.

BUT

I'm thinking about moving out soon, so realistically I've got to cut down to the one car. I know whichever car I sell I will regret, so is there anything I can get for £4k (£5k VERY max) which will do what BOTH of my current cars can...

I've a feeling its going to be impossible, but I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts....

Ta!

PS If I had to keep one of the cars, it would be the Mini, and have to put up with the repair bills, and getting the peasant-wagon to work every so often

Prelude 2.2VTEC. Fun & sensible, cheap, looks good, handles well, top engine, plenty on the market....

306 GTi-6, if all I read is true. 205 pushes many buttons but might be getting a bit too old to be reliable.

Hmmmm I'd always fancied a 106 Rallye... But looking at the 'Trader older shape 172s would look to be within budget.

Not after a big car so don't particularly fancy the 306 or 'Lude

Keep 'em coming.

306 is not a big car, in fact its no bigger than your 97 Civic. The GTi-6 is fantastic drivers hatch that does everything well. Misses had one for a couple of years which I used back and fore 100 mile day to work, loved every minute of it though the B roads, and wasn't that expensive to run. I wouldn't over look one until you've tried it. But if you really do think its too big (?) then the smaller 106 Gti is just as good.

Toyota Glanza V(Starlet in the UK) - 1.3 turbo, extremely tunable if you are into modding. Clio 172 fast as standard.

Could just about get an Audi A3 1.8T Sport, but that might prove expensive to maintain compared to the cars youre used to.

Clio 172 would probably fit the bill best, as a few people have already suggested!

I wouldn't like to live with a MR2 as an only car, esp if he's "just moving out". Get a hot hatch where you can put the back seats down and actually use it for load carrying.

Default fto

What about a mitsi fto though make sure its a manual not a tip cause they are $hit and prone to problems if not mantained properly.

I have had 3 fto's over the years currently have a manual GR which i picked up for 2K salvage, little summer project.

Get a good one for 4/5K with service history and a few mods, only down side and its a big one is the insurance group 18 i think.

Still love my day to day car, 2004 WRX with a few K's of mods.

PM if you want any info on fto's or checkout the owner club.

Gordon.

FTOs are ok but insurance on them I've found is a bitch, I got far more reasonable quotes on a lot of quicker machines than I could on an FTO

Technically they are group 20 as most are imports, a few uk ones but not for 4k.
