Character in a Car

Character in a Car
Does character play a part when you are buying a car for road use.
For example the latest Evo may whup the latest Impreza by 00000.1 round the track. I'd still get the Scooby- more distinctive shape, better noise, ect - more character.
I'm not talking about numbers either; or being sensible because it can carry lots of shopping.
I bought my MY00 two years ago because i've always loved 'em and I could now afford one - period.
Give me an Aston over a Ferarri any day
Do you you buy a car based on numbers or is there more to it than that?

I think its more than that. Character plays a big part in it for me. A lot of perfect cars can be boring. The latest GTI is one for me, but the slightly flawed VXR has character and that what attracts me. The Scooby has character where the EVO just puts its burbery cap on.

It's character that is the reason why I find my Landy a hoot to drive. Pine for old 80's 911s and enjoy the occasional waft in an old Jag.
None of the above is particularly fast though.
I'd argue that pretty much all modern cars don't really have any character and are much of a muchness to drive.
So new stuff I buy on economic sense and physical abilities.
Old stuff I'll buy in complete ignorance to how good/bad it is - as long as I enjoy driving it.
My ****-eyed bike collection sums it up

I couldn't agree more about cars with character. And that's why I'm finding it very hard to find an equally characterful replacement for my Impreza STI, especially now I have to consider 2 little ones. So that means 4 doors and seats and a good boot size. Fortunately Subaru make the Forester STI ...
