audi s3

I had a 225bhp car for 18 months and 25,000 miles. I loved it.
It didn`t miss a beat. It`d happily give 30+ mpg on a motorway run at 80/85 ish and was cheap to insure and service compared to a Subaru.
Don`t expect Impreza performance though. The S3 is not comparable to an Impreza. It`s a fast (ish) quality hatch and mine felt as solid after 25,000 miles as it did on day one.
Plenty of people complain about weak brakes but I never had a drama with mine. The steering feel is a bit numb I guess but again I didn`t have a problem with that either.
I just used to enjoy sinking into the awesome leather Recaros, turning up the BOSE and being ignored as I went about my business.

My wife's got one and I think it's a lovely car - we've had a few probs withe the front anti roll bar and the engine management line continually coming on but other than that, it's well built, quiet and comfortable - excellent hi-fi to as she has the BOSE upgraded system.
Not scooby fast, but quite a bit of torque on the motorway. Drinks petrol too, but not a badly the scoob!!!

I had a 210bhp version. Good car. Comfy. Decent on long runs with better than expected fuel economy. Not permanent 4wd so dont expect any drifting action. They have the cheek to put a quattro badge on it but its not. It has the haldex system ( 4 motion ) as in the golf. It is quick with plenty of low down torque but unfortunately this means it runs out of puff at 5000 rpm so no point revving it so might as well have a diesel. Also they rattle like hell inside, not the usual Audi solid feel. Very well equipped and an all round good car but just dont expect it to be fun like a scoob or as fast.

Hmm,
Mine didn`t drink fuel too much at all, in fact it was better than the other half`s MINI Cooper around town, and a lot better on a motorway run at about 80/85ish.
Mine was solid from day one to the day I sold it, easily the best built car I`ve owned, my present A3 Sportback is awful by comparison.
The quattro badging is more to do with Audi marketing than the technology employed underneath.

Depends if you like understated German style vs overstated Jap fun.
Owned one for over two years, main complaint is there are too many electrical parts on it, lots of niggly lights come on then go off- front anti-roll bars are a problem (had mine replaced last year) as to speed they are progressive power and from experience the performance (not the 0-62 as they are geared to max out at 58mph in 2nd) is very close to a none modded scoob.
