Just had a run in with a older style c55 amg, whats the figures on these? I normally drive so sensiably but could'nt resist the open road. Out accelerated him bottom end without a problem to 90kph , top end he was gone. Looked a lovely example as well.

Could it have been a 1995-2002 Merc E class E55
5.4 litre V8
0-60mph - 5.5 secs
354 bhp
530 Nm torque
155 mph limited
1710 kg

Don't think the C55 was out on an older model.....

As I thought.... check here

http://www.amgpower.com/models.php

The old C class did not come in C55, this model only came out in 2005.

Chances are it was a C36 or C43 badged up

Off the mark, not much will keep up with an Impreza up to 60ft or so, after that the huge torque of the big V8 will make it fly past you like your standing still!

Yup - it's a beast alright - be afraid, be very afraid. I had a run in once too. These uber saloons do pack some linear punch

This C-class did come with the 5.5 litre V8 engine. At the time the C43 was on sale, and after the E55 came out, you could also opt for the optional and very expensive 5.4 litre engine as a factory special upgrade. Very very rare if it was one, they were about £72k when new, but don't quote me on the price.

I wasn't aware of that.

Do you have any more info or links and I can't find anything on the web about it.

My money is still on a C36/43 badged as C55 though!

The AMG versions of the W202 came first with a 3.6 straight 6, & when the straight sixes were replaced with V6s, a 4.3 V8. Shortly after that, the 5.5 V8 from the E55 can also be specified as special order. It is a very rare car indeed, just like the Supercharged R129 SL55.

Pretty sure the C55 was left hand drive only though? Admit it was a beast but a C43 would see you off aswell
