Had an 83A in white with yhe alloy X-pack arches. Please watch out for electrical glitches as they are a nightmare, plus the performance is no greater than an XR3i, unless you uprate the cam. The solid lifters are good for rattle and the twin coils are a disaster. Buy a good MKI-MKII escort-Their quicker better handling and a lot more cred as well. In my op FORGET IT, they are rotting trouble.

It does seem alot but then again it's hard to judge the prices on some of these older cars, try looking on the RS Owners site, there should be a registra[spelling???] who could give you a good value.

Thanks everybody, had a look at the RS site , they value a "working class concourse car" at about £4000-£4500 so it seems about right, still thinking about it.

4500!
Bloody hell, you could get a decent car for that! I nearly bought one about 7 years ago. Failed the HPI though Was only £1750 and a similar spec to the one you mention.

forget what the RS owners club value it at, in the real world you'd never get the money they say that their worth, i've got a series 1 rs turbo that they say is worth a fortune, if i ever wanted to sell it i know i couldn't ever for the price they say.

Had one for 10 years, out of the box they are pig slow and the brakes are terrible. I ended up dropping in a 1.9L engine and strapping on a turbo, it nearly killed me on more than one occasion. Parts will be hard to find, there are loads of small but important bits on this car such as the black plastic radiator grill, one of these cost me £120 from Ford and that was 15 years ago! As the guy said above, the seats are nice and that's about it. I've still got a roll of seat fabric which must be worth a bloody fortune by now.
Steer clear and leave them to the RS geeks.

Ignore people who tell ya it aint worth 4-5k, ok to the average bloke fair enough but an average bloke after a motor aint gonna be wanting to buy a 20 yr old car in case of problems which the average motorist aint after.Yes its an enthusiasts car so your definately limiting yourself to enthusiasts who will be looking to buy it when you decide to sell it but u would have to keep it in absolute mint condition for it to be worth that sorta money-bear in mind as one of the above comments mentioned mk3 escorts dont need no encouraging to rot if its going to be used as an everyday car ur money might be wiser spent elsewhere-really to be honest you need a 2nd car to look after them properly.a mate of mine gave £4100 for this series 1 rs turbo off of e-bay but its off the road for the bad weather at the mo - just to give you an idea of what you can get for the money only thing he`s done is added a chrome rocker cover, heater box cover, fuel filter sleeve and the alloys the rest was as he bought it.

a series 1 rs turbo is a totally different car though and still quite popular, i've had a RS1600i and i still own a series 1 rs turbo, the RS1600i's look nice but have loads of problems, the twin coil set up was a nightmare when new so its not going to be any better these days and the brakes are even worse, the RS1600i was meant to be a LHD car not RHD so fords done a bodge job on converting it which resulting in very bad brakes, i love my series 1 but i'd never have another RS1600i

i`d have said its harder to find a good condition 16i meself these days to be honest, yes theyre basically a 3i but still respect good examples and parts are always gonna b a problem on older cars though owners clubs and e-bay are handy-its down to the individuals choice at the end of the day just make sure ur hearts in it mate coz keeping old cars mint aint easy(unless like some-u never use em)
