Fast, fun, cheap to buy and cheap to run?
I'm bored of my diesel now (after about 2 months). What can I get for £5k that is reasonably quick, fun to drive, can cope with 85mph cruising on the motorway, has room for me, MrsREV and the REVlet in his car seat, doesn't cost the earth to insure and does more than 35mpg? Nothing ordinary or boring, thanks!

He did say fun to drive (flame suit securely fastened)
My vote go's for the MX5 1.6 or the 1.8 as long as it has a LSD, with the roads as they are at the mo it's the most fun you can legally have with your trousers on.

I'm sure that on a run an S14a 200sx would do over 35mpg if you were careful.....
Failing that, what about a Civic VTi or an Accord Type-R if you can stretch slightly over budget??
Cheers,
Grant

V6 of various descriptions would maybe fit the bill. There's a couple of MG ZS 180s in autotrader between £5k and £6k, they're very nice to drive but could be a bit marginal on the 35mpg. The other suggestions are all fine, or just a Focus Zetec 2.0 - a bit common but decent drive, can pick decent one up for under £5k
