Default Was there a "Mille Miglia" special edition 500SL Merc in the 90s?

As per title -- my bro-in-law reckons he's just bought a "Mille Miglia" ltd edition 500SL, 95 on an M.

It's in silver with black / red seats, full MBSH, hard & soft tops etc. Has little chequered flag badges on the side vents, apparently.

Any info appreciated!

Wink

I think (if I remember correctly) M-B produced a number of 320s and 500s (not sure if any 280s) to celebrate 50th anniversary of Moss and Jenks's victory in the famous (or now infamous) road race.

The ex-Stirling Moss SL500 MM is for sale on Autotrader.

I also have found out there SLR was numbered 722 as this was the start time for their adventure!

Damn - I wanted that car!

Been thinking about a R129 SL for a few months now - or a C43 AMG saloon.

The insurance (even on a 500 SL) is very reasonable for me now, and with AMG alloys I think they look superb

Decisions decisions decisions......

He's just confirmed he's bought it, although it's in the shop having its crank position sensor replaced (intermittent starting problems).

Bro-in-law is 44 and reckons insurance is £450 per year.

I think that model SL is going to appreciate soon, they're in the no-mans-land of not yet being an acknowledged "classic" and too old to look really modern.

Buy now before the price goes up by 30% in spring!

I've just changed from a SL500 to a 911 and miss the Merc in a number of ways.
The 500 V8 engine is supurb, putting out 326bhp.
It's very stable but obviously not as nimble as smaller cars.
I've still got the SL parked up with the hard top on to sell in the spring hoping that as you say, i may get a better price.

I could be very wrong on this, but I thought the Mille Miglia versions were available approximately 1998 - 2000. I can check in work tomorrow if it is important.

Craig,

You may be referring to the 100 right hand drive special edition models built to commemorate the final production of this 4th generation in 2001.

"Silver Arrow".
