Running In a Diseasel
My new co. car is arriving tomorrow and I was just wondering if one should run in a diesel. I mean, using half the rev range would barely get past tickover!
Looking fwd to the tax and fuel savings tho!

It'll say in the manual. Remember the running in period is not just for the engine, it's for the gearbox, suspension, cooling, lubrication etc. Basically, all moving parts. Same applies for diesel or petrol.

Dealer told me that I didn't have to run in my Bora - they're run in already apparently...
Don't think I've ever bought a new car (petrol or diesel) that's needed to be run in...

I know people say you don't need to run things in now, but I'm not sure. I ran my V5 in for the first thousand miles, and ended up with it putting out 176bhp

The last 3 co car's I've had have all been diesel, and all VAG. The Audi dealer told me to get the best from the diesel would be to drive it hard from new.
Only his opinion though, you take your chances I guess.
As it is a comp car it'll be covered under warranty, and be replaced after 3 years/"x" miles.
I think there's a greater risk of it burning more oil if thrased from new, think the rings need to bed in.

BTW my wife learned in a poxy Seat Marbella, then went to a diesel. Constantly stalled the diesel, I'm convinced it's because she got used to "lean on throttle and let clutch up" rather than "lean on throttle, wait a second for it to kick in, then let clutch up".
She's OK now.
