Jaguar XJR
Looks like a lot of car for the money.
10K buys 1998 /99 car with 70-80K on the clock.
good points = 370 bhp, lots of toys, RWD, seriously comfy.
bad points = Autopmatic gearbox only option, running costs, old man image, bigger than I need.
Anyone know anything about these cars?
Is it possible to convert it to manual gearbox?
Cheers.
Martin.

You can get a manual XJR6 - to 1996 I think (aka x300 model - V8s are x350). That's the blown 4 ltr straight six - 320 odd bhp rather than 370, similar torque I think.
Plus point - cheap as chips, no Nikasil problems (v common on 97-99 jag V8 engines), similar weight to the x350 that replaced. The new XJs have alloy bodies and weigh much less.
I've got one. Fast, comfortable, quite good fun, thirsty. Good laugh though, and not all that expensive (8k in 2002).
If you want the V8, mind out for Nikasil issues. Most/many 97-99 V8s have new engines now.

I'd echo Jonathan's point's, my former boss had an XJR-6 and it was well
Can't see why you'd want to go to the bother, and expense, of fitting a manual 'box when the auto they come with is so smooth, and so suited to the car though?
