Boring TDi's
Not a thread about engine performance but looks.
Why are people changing from an Impreza; a bit of a visual statement to say the least. To a car that will be a struggle to find in tesco's car-park?
Slightly prompted by the 'hot diesels' thread, why are the VW 'sales-rep-express' so popular? and the Seat; not unlike every other hatch on the road! I realise there are other factors, but looks is a huge one?!
I've been thinking about a diesel recently, and the only car I've seen that I really like is the Alfa GT 1.9d

The VAG diesels are the best in the world, hence their popularity.
I've gone from a MY93 WRX to a MY01 WRX to a VW Bora. To replace the excitement (driving and visually) I'm lashing a 400bhp V8 into an old Vauxhall Viva.

Good luck with the transplant.

I changed from an STI3 to a Golf 1.9tdi for purely financial reasons, Insurance a third of the prive, fuel 55mpg, servicing!!!!. I'd have another tomorrow, but when your doing 45k a year its a no brainer.
Fair enough they are fairly common, but the scoob is hardly exclusive any more (just look in autotrader).
I'm looking at changing soon, I did think of getting an old uk scoob as they are dirt cheap to buy, but still too expensive to insure for business use, and with fuel as it is at the moment......
I'm looking at the Audi A4 2.5 Quattro 180 Diesel or BMW 330D only problem is you become a BMW driver with the 330D. Bung a tuning box on them and they are quick enough, though nowhere near the scoob "experience"

Didn't GM put a big six-pot in the Aussie versions of the Viva? Which motor are you planning to use?

of course diesels are a no-brainer these days; power and torque with economy, I want one. But I also want a car that I'm going to be excited to look at, and then drive. Seems like a bit to much to ask for these days.

Most people as they mature don't want to pointed and laughed at etc. Now if subaru could produce a sleek coupe with clean lines, no scoops, bulges, spoilers with the impreza underneath, now that'd be nice

As I stated in my original post, I love the Alfa GT; sex on wheels!
