Default Clio 172 fails MOT due to middle rear seatbelt!!

Does anyone know if these "have" to be there?

I understand that if they are there and fail the seatbelt test then the MOT fails, but what if you remove the Seatbelt altogether? After all the other 2 belts in the rear are fine.

I'm just loathed to pay out £140 just to get a new seatbelt fitted that is never used!!!

What if I wanted to remove the rear seats completely??

Remove the rear seats and the seatbelts and all is well AFAIK.

I hope thats the case anyway as my Pug has no rear seats or seatbelts.

Same with fog lights, if they are there they have to work but remove them and its fine.

As long as its removed altogether then it should be fine IIRC, if the garage still fail you, take it to someone else & dont mention it

A car HAS to have rear fogs or why would import scoobs have them retro-fitted?

If you have rear seats a minimum of four belts throughout the car are required. Never heard of one failing for a middle but if the V5 says seating: 5 then the mot tester would expect five belts if all seats are in situ.

Guessing he means fronts..

Same i think is true of the spare wheel as well. If you have on it has to have legal tread, but you dont have to have one.

My Uncle's 172 just failed its MOT on CV gaiters (both sides)

Split rubber gaiters on a 3year old car FFS how crap can you get?....in comparison..13 years old Celica...still on the originals when sold....8 year old impreza...still original (8 in total as opposed to 4)

Very poor indeed IMO.

Front fogs aren't part of the test, neither is the spare wheel. IIRC it's illegal to have a bald spare tyre in the car, but they won't even look at it for the MOT.

But if you carry a can of Tyre-Weld then you arent breaking the law... Hence why some new cars come with that rather than a spare.

Cheers,

Front fogs don't have to work. my nearside one got a huge hole in it from a flying stone on the way to the test centre taking out the bulb with it.

Advisory but no failure.

BTW, how much is a new classic shape fog??!!!

Default UPDATE

Took the car to a different garage and it passed first time!!
They said there was nothing wrong with the belt and the idiots doing the original MOT must've been clipping it in wrong...
...go figure!
Saved the missus £145!
