Default EVO mag 8.00 min ring car attempt

This guy was supposed to be driving the car. He is the Nissan test driver Dirk Shoysman (spelling). He is the driver in the famous Skyline round the nurburgring video.

He wasn't up to the job so they drafted in some new blood.

Crack on Mr Bovington i've got a lap to do, hurry up and fill this old smoker up with fuel.

Did the car manage 8mins ........ hmmmmmmm .........

Erm - i would say so. I think the M3 is meant to do it in 8:20 or something with full interior - a/c road wheels etc. It would take a spot on driver and a clean run, but achievable I would say

Sitting at the bar with a beer in one hand and stopwatch in the other was a very civilised way of watching him try.

....I think I said at the time he would go no faster than 8.15. Others in the area (Sabine) said it could not be done.

I'd say that it couldn't be done. However, stranger things have happened. And are we talking 8:00BTG or for a full lap?

"Did the car manage 8mins ........ hmmmmmmm ........."

Not with Gary at the wheel

That would be 7:40BTG - that's shifting. I'd say it didn't have enough power to do it...

Funnily enough my BTG this weekend is exactly the same as his full lap time. A bit of a feat when you think he only did about 4 laps in total in the car.

I asked Sabine if she thought it possible, she said she could do about 8.15-20 in last years M5 so she doubted it could be done.

Yes mate I agree on both counts. I gave him a shout and asked for the pic. He was more than willing to oblige. He had just come in from lapping in his Le-man car and stuck his overalls back on for the pic.

His lap of the ring in the radical is still one of the best I have seen. Shame its not a full lap though.

dirk Shoysman(spelling) is probably one of the best (if the THE best) drivers around the ring, if he can't do it i doubt anyone can.

Didnt think I was being particularly cagey. Its my mysterious nature don't you know.

8mins 22secs was the lap time. As Dirk said after 3 laps he knew it wouldnt happen as he would already have the car within a few secs of its best.

Ouch - so what does the car need to achieve 8 mins, or is it simply 100 more bhp ?

An 8 minute full lap means a 7.35 BTG. I cant see an M3 GT doing it without some serious mods. Back to the EVO towers drawing board me thinks.

I did offer Jethro £3,500 cash for the car after it failed but he didn't take me up on it.

So Dirk was about 8 min BTG. Pretty impressive in an old M3. My latest 330d was only 42 seconds slower! That's still quite a long way behind though! LOL I'll get my coat.
