VW Golf MkV - which one?
Copied from a trillion forums - kthxbye
Hi folks,
Which is the better buy:
Both are MkV with 5 doors and black. Assume same spec for both.
1.6 FSi (petrol) - £10,500
2.0 GtTDi (Diesel) - £15,000
I've driven both of them. The GtTdi handles lovely, great chassis and suspension set up. And has incredible torque. But it's noisy (wife hated the tractor noise) and the car is nearly 5k more expensive.
The petrol is cheaper to buy, but may lose out on depreciation in cost per mile.
If one could assume 2 year running costs on these, which would be the most sensible? I want the TDi so I can chip it
Cheers
Cem

The FSi should be almost as economical as the TDi -- that's the point of FSi. And petrol is about 5p a litre cheaper than diesel. How many miles a year will you be doing? Need to do a fair few to claw back that 5k.

Hi
I have a MkV - 3dr 2.0GTdi - which is chipped (it is around 180 hp).
I also have an 05WRX - in the dry the Golf feels nearly as quick from 30-70 as the Scooby!!!
The Golf does 48-55mpg and the Scooby does around 20-25mpg!!!
I would take the diesel over the FSi anyday - especially as the FSi engine only really works as a true FSi in very limited circumstances (from a VW insider!)
Cheers!
