Question Chop Scoob In For CLIO ?????

CRAAAAZY i Know.

MY00 Turbo 47K Miles Immaculate.

Thinking of trading in for NEW Clio Trophy 182.

Am I Mad ? It just seems that the scoob is now depreciating and although the Clio will initially drop value it will have 3 year warranty and be cheaper to run

Of course if I had the Moola I would be on my way to Litchfields to pick up my new MY06 Spec C (chance would be a fine thing).

What do you all think ??

Cheers

Roblad.

You wouldn't be the first. The Clio would be quicker too.

But the Civic is dull, dull , dull.

Had a go in a mate's a few days ago and couldn't believe how crap it was. Virtually no driver feedback despite being pacey and poor pick-up. Even when in the 'band' it was average.

Nice package but left me feeling like it could have been better.

Clio is built like a biscuit tin but the only true match to the 205GTI around today.

Indeed, Tony.

But if you want a new motor in warranty the Clio is the one that does it.

Both great cars, but the Honda is just too sterile and safe feeling.

I'd personally buy a base Civic and a good 205 or a meaty R5GTT for fun.

Trade in for a clio! you are indeed mad and you need to take a holiday.
Clios maybe cheap, but so is value kitchen roll and lasts just as long as a new clio!
My 172 was the worst car I have ever bought new.

While my old Clio was a lot of fun, it's unreliability and shockingly bad dealers have ensured that I'll never buy a Renault again.

the mrs has been fine for over 11k miles....nothing gone wrong so far and is a different drive to the scoob....some people will have bad ones and some will be fine...ure bound to read stories of woe online...thats why a lot are online in the 1st place - to sort the mess out!

I've just given the clio a quick valet today while the scoob is in having a tracker fitted...

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18...o/DSC01549.jpg

I'd not take one over the scoob on a like for like basis but for slightly cheaper running it does have a good case. Ours is a 182 with the spoiler and handling cup packs on...so comes with all the toys like cruise and climate control etc etc.

You can pick one up quite reasonably now...

Yeah partly why I bought one instead of a scoob for now, insurance and running the scoob would probably kill me. I still want one though

I swapped my STi V Type R for a 182 Cup and I get more pleasure from driving the Clio than I did the Scoob. It's much cheaper, can be left anywhere and drives wonderfully. It was fast enough at a recent trackday to pass 911's (probably wasn't trying ) and caterhams (it was wet). I also don't have the worry of the engine going pop!

Thats like saying Scoobs are for chavs and neds. Who gives a sh1te what other people think. If the car is a great car and drives well, and IMO the Clio 172/182/Cup are excellent cars, forget your prejudices and go for a test drive and don't be so weak minded as what other people think.

Default CLIOS ARE FAB, IT'S A FACT

Wifes mk2 clio 172 is now at the 65,000 mark. Never had a single problem with it.
I have to say that it is more fun than my 05 STI.

Wait a few months, the new Clio is on its way out, 200 bhp and hopefully it will address the problems of the older model like the quality issues and the poor driving position, and I would imagine with 200 bhp, weighing not much more than a tonne and not having 4wd trans losses be quicker than a standard uk Scoob, not that straight line performance is the be all and end all. I think I might get one if they can be had for not much more than the 11 grand or so you pay for a 182 at the moment. It is sobering to think that a Sierra cosworth had 204 bhp back in 1986 and that was considered a beast, now you can get the same hp in a shopping trolley. With Petrol being the price it is I am not going to buy another thirsty car, and I beleive the Clio does 30 - 40 mpg whatever you do.

I personnaly dont think there is anything to touch the Renault for the money and with the new model coming out the old ones will get very cheap indeed which is good news if the still work, but bad news in that ******** will get them, go very fast and crash.

Even though the new clio will be 200bhp, I bet it will weigh in close on 1200kg. It's a bigger car and Renault like the NCAP 5 star awards so it will be heavier from all the extra safety measures.

I bet it will struggle to be as fast or nimble as the current 182.

it's true, MY00 isn't as quick in a straight line as a Trophy, sorry boys.

std performance of base model Scoobs are a joke compared to STi's and Evo's and the like. It's a group 17 car, not a fookin supercar like most owners seem to think pmsl. The amount of lowly Impreza's i've humbled is hilarious... I certainly know when I'm up against an STi as they leave me for dead... but base model ones are nothing special at all unless tuned.

Thanks for all your reply's

Firstly The image does'nt bother me, but its good to know people's differing opinions!

On the reliability front you could buy a brand new FORD GT (A la Clarkson) and find it so unreliable you take it back !! :O

Its the luck of the draw.

And for those doubters about the ability of a standard CLASSIC Scoob. you may be suprised. My Classic is bog standard but has no Aircon or Toys and is very LIGHT. so it is quicker than a new boggo wrx.

My Classic drives like new and would suprise most Hot Hatch Drivers.

I think I will guage interest in my car and if the price is right? may be tempted to get the Trophy.

Cheers

Roblad.

I have been looking at the car supermarkets for a 182 for the wife and you can get a Light Blue 182 with the cup suspension and spoilers for £12.3K.

Ok, you may not get the turbo kick, but you can park it near anywhere, can still see of rep-mobiles and get:

ABS, Traction control, HID's, Leather seats, Auto Wipers, Auto lights and Aircon, all as standard.

The Trophy is nice but as has been mentioned, shop around for a fully loaded 182 with the Cup packs and save a fortune. The standard seats are damn good as is the ride, handling and brakes.
The performance is very impressive, albeit with a distinctly different delivery and big smiles are far more accessible than in an Impreza.
