Default Next car 20k bracket???

Hi guys... once the type r has gone and we have sorted a few finances out we will be lookign for another motor. we were thinking about the 20k mark... Could probably stretch to £25k but that is the absolute maximum and would be a real stretch...

just want something fun, very quick, reliable and rare/different... ideas please...

i was thinking nsx but it would have to be quite an older one for our price bracket...

For £20k I wouldn't have any car other than my own (S2000) but it probably doesn't qualify for most as 'very quick'. I'd seriously consider stretching to £23-24k for a nice private example of the outgoing M5. You could also consider a VX220 turbo if practicallity isn't an issue. Or you could buy a highi(ish) mileage Jaguar XJR (the beefy supercharged one!) for around £10-12k and have around £10 to spend on a totally impractical weekend beastie.

Doh, just realised you've pinned the M5 idea on the 'not happening wall'

m5 would be phat but is a no goer... we thought about a golf r32 with a turbo charger kit on by eip tuning.. 370bhp.... only thing is that i dont think it looks very special... kinda looks like a normal golf...

not bothered about practicality as we have a daily driver polo tdi..

When i was last shopping (round about that budget) I looked at a Leon Cupra R (bit cheaper) and an M3. Can't think of much else if you want 4 seats.

Will it be a daily driver/only car?

sorry to have shot down the m5 idea but they are a bit too big for me and they just dont appeal.... i would rather have an m3.

i love the idea of an exige as drove one and loved it.

Exige?!?!?
Surely "reliable" and any K-series engine (or "Lotus") are mutually exclusive? Better off with a Toyota-engined Elise I think.

Fair point from Carl, as you might recall in September last year I asked for advice on Lotus Elises for my mate. He bought one. First his altenator went, then the exhaust, the some other niggly thing that I forget and two weeks ago the head gasket went, water jammed the pistons and he f*cked the engine!!! It's been something of a nightmare for him.

Yikes! I thought about an Elise and keeping my Zetec-S for work - but didn't bother looking at em etc in the end. Sounds like a good job, as I'd have been having a series 1!

ok maybe a smidge over, but spending that much there must be room to haggle.

i've got a V6 trpe r and one of the above or an exige is all i can see me selling it for, until nobles drop abit anyway!

E46 M3.....early £20k's there are quite a few available.....

Porsche 911(911) £20-25k covers a lot of them...

BMW 330ci convertible? If you like your beemers, lovely cars ...

Mercedes C32 amg....rare and different, very quick in a straight line and suprisingly VERY cheap to insure......and fully loaded....

Audi S4?.......2.7 twin turbo...lots of modifying potenatil, and you could get a mint one in your budget....

Im in a similar position to you, and I'm busy hunting a nice M3 convertible, or a Porsche 996 (although I'm able to go up to £30k).....

i have recently got myself a Megane 225 Trophy ( not the standard 225 Trophy is far superior ).

1. Very rare ( only making 500 )
2. Quick 150mph
3. Fairly cheap to run
4. Loads of toys etc
5. Handles very well
6. Just as quick if not quicker than R32...
7. Down to taste but personally I think it looks unique and pretty moody

I previously had a Lotus 111S but with the winter months approaching as much as I loved the car it is a ficking nightmare in the bad weather, leaks, freezing and impossible to drive in snow/ice etc.

Still loved it to bits tho !

For £20-25k, the best bet would be to get a 911 (993 version).....about an M or maybe N reg.....good ones are highly sought after, and have rock solid residuals....

Check out www.911uk.com

It is a very sensible purachse if you get a clean one with fully documented history, they are the last of the air cooled 911s and are superb to drive and have classic/cult status amongst porsche enhusiasts...there are a few on ebay at the mo...
