Wink How Come it Was NOT quicker than me??

While this is the topic of the day

Transit 100PS T280 Front wheel drive, SWB, Low roof van. Laden with a motorbike, another bike worth of bits as cargo and 1 passenger.

Vs.

Citroen C5 HDi no passengers

Whilst on a charge overtaking some cars, flat out through the gears. Said Citroen pulled out infront of me with no indicators and gunned it, me not being happy that he pulled out seemingly without looking, I welded myself to his ****. He kept his foot down, thrashing through the gears (could see puffs of smoke between the gear changes), yet he still made no distance between us.

It was only until I hit the slight flat spot mid way through the transit's top speed that he made about 20ft, but once past that speed his accelaration started trailing off too, and I reeled him in slightly. Although both of us are still accelarating hard he could not outrun the transit - until we ran out of road 2 miles later and had to slow down

So is the transit quick or is the Citroen C5 HDi slow?

Thoughts and view please.

Btw Transit wasn't white

LOL, funny you should say that, as it I have tried that following a Merc Sprinter and it does work - can keep up no probs, pull out to overtake - oh dear where has my acelaration gone?

Must be the drag from all the dirt

Most days I act about 55-60, but there are the odd occasions when I do actually act my true age

I dunno but it was the end of the British motor industry when Trannies went FWD.

Don't dispair..the 2.4 diesels and petrols are still RWD, only the 2.0 diesels are FWD

LOL, everyone knows transit vans adopt the engine of the car they are following, hence regadless of what you drive, they always stay welded to you rear bumper.

I didn't know that. One of my first jobs in the UK involved a RWD Tranny in which I learnt more about driving than I did in a few years of rallying especially about momentum and decent clean lines. Locking up the diff by changing down too early was a speciality of mine and you used to be able to file off the limiter for that extra bit of speed. If it wasn't for the state of my licence it would be fun to hire one just for a laugh.

An unladen transit is actually very light because theres none of the seats and crap that's in the C5, so would have a similar power to weight ratio. the bikes in the back of yours probabaly made the contest even
