tcdi eh..........right.
My xsaras steering is irritatingly 'heavy' i think - my bro in law commented on it as well - (he has diesel 306). Apparently steering handling....and,back road comfort is better on 306 than focus.

Lift the bonnet and I'll tell you which one is which ...look at the badge and I'm lost
I'll be back when I've worked it out
Handling and ride is personal preference really, I can't find much difference between them really. Pug has a bit more feel to it, but I have more confidence when pushing the focus hard.

Yeah I was right:
1.8 Tdi: old fashioned Turbo diesel = 88 Bhp
1.8 TdCi: newer common-rail turbo diesel = 98Bhp
1.8 TdCi: as above with intercooler = 113bhp
Obviously the latter two are the ones to go for

Erm thinking about it now you've mentioned it, is it the Tdi that had no intercooler and both TdCi's had intercoolers. Arrgh!

But you can't get that engine in a 306 which is the 90bhp Hdi without a intercooler or the old non-Hdi engines(which did have an intercooler
