I believe the 3 is the first model to be fitted with anti yaw control i also believe they are 280bhp (please dont take my word on that one) the only thing to remember its an early 90s Mitsubishi so the interior is fairly poor and high milage ones should be avoided like the plague.

3 did not have AYC, that only came in on numero 4.
It's the last one to not have all that stuff on it, it's light and absolutely flies yet doesn't cost a fortune to run. Only thing that can cost is insurance, Tescos for instance rate the 3 as a 96 on their 1-100 groupings, iirc no Impreza is above 90 in their groupings.
If you can't afford a later one they are absolutely stonking, keep up with most things on the road nicely

The evo 3 was actually 266bhp and the acceleration is very raw. As I've said on here before though this is sadly spoilt by a nasty gearchange If you can live with the gearchange they are an awesome car for the money, don't let anyone tell you that they can't sound nice because they are talking boll0cks These can be made to sound fantastic.

If you are into track days then a Evo 4 maybe a better bet to a 3.
4's are a better handling car, feel better at higher speed and turn in better.
in a straight line drag(1/4) though think me money would be on a 3 over a 4.
Evo 3 seats are the best in the range untill maybe the 7/8's
agree with paul that the gearchange isnt THAT great, makes up for this by having a very strong tranny. 9 sec 1/4 Evo 1-3's using standard running gear out there.
Gear ratios are short like a scooby typre R.
Had a little run in with a Evo 6 RS last night.
My mods are filter/decat and 1.1bar boost and I out dragged in with 2 passengers in me car ok it was only a few feet but winning is winning!
oh and if you get a Evo 3 there is only one colour to get(excuse to post pic of me car)

only rears I have seen are the lexus ones....you may think they look bad on a classic scoob but you aint seen nothing yet
Get a few differant ones for the front
A Evo 3 will need to be de-tango'd
only the Evo 3 out of the 1-3's come in yellow

When car was standard it was same performance as my friends STI PPP bugeye
over take him at will running my very small amount of mods.
Can also take a few lengths out of my friends M3 Evo from a rolling start
You run about 0.7 bar standard on a 3. Turbo good for towards 380bhp
Can really only goto about 1.1bar/1.2 on standard Evo 3 internals. Compression is a tad high which doesnt help.Pistons and rods are CHEAP though
