Default Mercedes ML - AMG?

Had my **** handed to me on a plate the other night

Pulled up at the lights next to a jeep thingy, wasn't paying much attention - thought it was an X5 at first.

As the lights changed to green he floors it, I thought, why not and put my foot down - by the time I'd reacted he was about 10 car lenghts away, LOL.....

At the next set of lights I pull up next to him and notice it's a Merc jeep, had a big shiny AMG badge on the back and two huge exhausts poking out. Spoke to the chap at the lights who said it's supercharged as standard and is being "chipped" at the weekend..........

Seriously quick car/jeep, respect where it's due, anyone got any info on these, didn't realise there was an AMG version of the ML.

What were you in ?

We had the ML320 and it was a bit crap, now that wasnt very fast considering its 200 + bhp and it only did 18 mpg, dont know why people bother with them.

I also had a tussle with a ML55 AMG on a motorway sliproad and managed to stay in front pretty comfortably (WRX PPP). I let him go past when I got to the motorway though, but he was definitely having a bash. Must've had an empty Purdey's bottle jammed under the accelerator pedal

saw these on Top Gear - its absolutley mental and would probably give a wrx a very hard time if it wanted too!

I was in a 2001 WRX bugeye..................although it's far from standard and should be pushing out just over 300bhp and a similar amount of torque.

He did get the jump on me but I was up to silly speeds before I caught up.

Must say I'm not a fan of the ML's looks (says the bugeye owner ) but this one was pimped out - Tints, huge alloys, bodykit - looked the biz.

As I say, was well impressed, just wondering what sort of power these barges put out.

They are 354 bhp, would have thought a 300 bhp lighter car would be similar, I suppose it may just be down to monster V8/Supercharger torque.

I remember an ML320 having a 'go' with my old Golf GTI, full on boy racer style with coil overs, the 320 gained on the straights but couldnt corner anywhere near as fast, this goes on for 3 roundabouts on the bypass, I wasnt racing really, just going my normal pace, i.e. as fast as my 4 cylinders and 8 valves would carry me, he got right up close just before the fourth roundabout, I basically go through as straight as possible, just a little left then a little right and this Merc follows ready to get past on the next straight but the t1t hits the inside of the roundabout, puts 2 wheels in the air and nearly puts it on its roof, he then slowed down markedly for some reason......

4*4 owners, please take notice of your vehicles dynamic limitations !

That said, I was following a very well piloted Touareg V10 Diesel the other day, unbeleiveable the speed that thing was getting thrown about, suppose it must be down to the ESP taking care of matters if the driver overdose it.

What He Said.

If you want to make anything go faster, put a bigger engine in it. Hardly rocket science. (Though it could be, I suppose...). However, to use that on British roads is a different story.

That's not dynamic limitations - the ***** couldn't point the thing at the right place .

i changed from my scooby about a year ago, wanted a change , so opted for an ml 270 diesel, had to have the AMG body kit as it looks mean as anything.
black with the pimp tints looks like a real drug dealers ride!!
the deisel has bucket loads of torque(about 350lb/ft) so once you are moving it is great at over taking, handling is good for a big beast but ride is so "crashy" over the bumps!

regards
dave

I may be wrong, but i think you'll find the ML55 AMG's are 550 bhp, not to be taken too lightly, a friend's got a Porche Cayenne S, and that will keep up with a standard Wrx, until you get into really silly speed,s on the twistie's.

Yep the 55 bit stands for 5.5 litre not 550HP. Nice piece of kit and there are some options to tweek it also. That said the VW Toureg V10 diesel chipped to over 600ft/lbs has got to be fun

I have to say I love these...I drive a Passat as my 'work' car and these remind me of a sexier Passat crossed with a Cayenne. 600ft/lbs would be ... erm...interesting!

May be mistaken but i thought the only supercharged merc 4x4 was the AMG G-wagon?

The ML55 was "just" the regular 350+ bhp normally aspirated V8

Seen a very hilarious moment today though. A maxpowered corsa trying to overtake a Brabus (doubt it, it had the badges but looked just like a ML320) and the brabus just put its foot down and the corsa gave up and pulled back in. Very naughty thing to do but max power deserves humiliation!
