Default 300zx vs TT supra, owners views please

thinking of one of the above, would have to be manual, just after owners thoughts/views please on general performance, handling etc. reliability....

any links to good sites with info would also be appreciated.

ta.

Friend of mine owned a 300zx and sold it for a Jap Supra TT.

According to him, there is "no comparison" with regards to performance, reliability. The Supra is infinately better.

Granted, he may say that cos the choice he's made but after looking at the TT I thought it was a lot "nicer" - I never ent out in either so don't know about the drive.

300ZX is a bit Don Johnson imo, Supra TT, if nicely modified (not vents and scoops everywhere) look classy.

Top cars!! 300zx is just a bit old and w&nk now.

Confirmed.

Injectors and smaller turbo, though Jap cars are supposed to be a smoother power curve....

also bearing in mind the price here, looking around, it seems that 5k will get a nice 300, 8k should get a decent jap sup & then perhaps 12k or so for a uk sup, i prefer the look of the sups but im just thinking for 5k its a hell of a car with plenty of tuning potential..

ive read that the sups handle extremely well, could do with knowing about the 300's.

thanks for replies so far

300's are known for being somewhat frail, and Supra's have pretty much bomb proof reliability - you have to ask why one is more expensive to buy than the other.
I lusted after a 300ZX when I was at school so REALLY wanted one, but I bought a Supra after researching both.

The Uk vs. JDM debate is long running. Yes the UK car has bigger injectors and different turbo internals, but the JDM spools quicker and always dynos well over the '280bhp' figure, plus the UK car is slightly heavier. There's pros and cons to both, the difficulty nowadays is finding a UK TT with reasonable mileage and in good condition.

My Supra is mildly modified and I love it to bits, but it's a GT car and of course will always get beat by a scooby in the hallowed 'twisties'

All the best with your choice mate.

Try them both and see what you think

PS dont be put of by the supra auto box ( not everyone likes autos ) but it mneat to be excellent

RX7 ??

(Flamesuit on).

Get a good one and you will be quicker than both the aforementioned cars due to it's excellent handling.

Agreed, I've got an auto and it really is good. Many will turn their nose up at an auto because they are normally associated with older folk in their jag's - but don't discount it until you've tried it. My brother works for Mercedes-Benz and has tried all manner of powerful MB\AMG auto - and he was massively impressed with the gearbox in my 10 year old Supra.

Two posts in a Supra thread, and I haven't posted a gratuitous pic of my car - I'm doing very well

Flamesuit not necessary mate, I WILL have one of these before long - they look cool, go like stink and handle very well too.

But these can be even more costly to look after, so do your homework before taking the plunge

what sort of price are you talking for a decent rx7 then, always a bit worried about what you hear regarding the wankel rebuilds...

always think they look like batmobile

8k buys a superb example. Alot of problems are "spin offs" to not changing rotor tips. Change them, and the engine with regular oil servicing, and NOT allowing it to overheat (in traffic say) and it'll be fine.

There's not much difference in performance stock to stock, nor modded to modded.

If the 300zx has an image problem, what about sight of 80% of UK supra owners looking like pie eating professionals??

DodgeT - Look at both, draw own conclusion though I defy anybody to say the ZX is as good a car than the Supra, cos it is not.

I know what the title said, but then it started on the supe uk vs jspec hence my comment to just search! So no need to get so ar$ey about it!

I'd go Supe TT anyday, far better look at and much easier to work on IMHO, plus they are easier to get power from cheaply, very tuneable lump etc etc etc etc etc etc

I had a tussel with a very nice which TT Supra with large gold alloys, it had loads of dials on the A-Piller, saw them as he overtook me.

I was in a DC5 and was in VTEC zone when he went by on a straight. After he took me there was a roundabout straight ahead and he went around it with his back end out all the way, it looked awesome but I wouldn't try that on the roads.

Not having a dig at your actual car, it looks a stunning example, they really do suffer from an image problem, or atleaset one i would not want to be associted with.

supra more refined than 300zx. 300zx horrible to work on(ive had 2...jap, and modified uk.400bhp)..gearboxes on 300 are a bit troublesome, synchros not very hardwearing, and getting into 5th often difficult. lots of chassis flex if targa top. turbo replacement = engine out..not nice..v little underbonnet ventilation so all hoses and loom harden and connectors become brittle.lifters tend to be a bit noisy and u dont want to buy a new set, theres 24 of them! despite all of the above i would buy another.

supra seems a stronger engine. easier to work on and standard conrods will take 700 bhp+ !!
AND its a TOYOTA
does that help u make your mind up??
heh heh
