New Saab 9-3 Convertible. Should I?
Looking at one of these at the moment. It is the 1.8t Vector model. Drives OK, much better than the old shape as there is less flex in the chassis. Standard 150BHP can easily become 190BHP with a little trip to Abbott Racing.
But, I have never owned a Saab before so what are the opinions of the SN masses?

Something a bit cool about not being mainstream.
Convertible looks great, plus 4 seats and good boot.
Saab reliability is pretty good and most seem to achieve star ship mileage.
Safe as well which is increasingly important.
I like 'em
It was Saab and Volvo that started the whole rally thing back in the late 50s and early 60s.

I think they are great. Very expensive though compared to the coupe, but that is a good thing as you need good residuals in this day and age. The Saab is no doubt a more popular option than the Volvo, but the C70 does it for me.
Good luck either way.
Good luck either way.

Its funny, I just bought a boggo 5 door 9-3 LPT on a Y (2001) plate for 4 grand, its strange that the convertible retains so much more value, not saying it shouldnt, quite a lot more desirable but go for at least 12 grand, for the same car without a proper roof !

Tony, i have the new 9-3ss Aero saloon and love it and i'm also picking up a new 9-3ss Vector 2.0t Cabrio in the morning.
Hope the weather holds out as my trip to Nottingham will be rather nice.

I recently drove the 175bhp 2.0t cabrio..... Buy the car for the stunning looks BUT DONT buy the car for any kind of performance or handling. Very disappointing! The version I drove felt like someone had nicked the turbo. Go for the aero version!

Agree with Ru$$rip the 2.0t Cabrio looks nice but shakes rattles and rolls all over the place, the car is sluggish and you cant get a set of golf clubs in the boot never mind the trolley.
The Vector model doesnt come with the sports chassis or the decent brakes as in the Aero and it needs it, also anything above 40 mph is unbearable in the back with the roof off.
Its a 30 mph boulevard cruiser and thats it. I'm so glad i tried it before i commited to buy it and will wait for the new twin Turbo Aero saloon in September and see whats thats like compared with my current Aero.

But thanks anyway Ru$$Rip for taking the precious time to answer my post.

ask your dealer when saab are coming out with the official trionic 8 upgrades - with trionic 7 you'd be looking at approx 30bhp + straight off with a ECU change, and with Saab (or Hirsch) you keep your warranty.
If you go for external ECU mappers, Maptun have the best reputation along with Nordic, Abbot are not particularly rated in some circles.
Have a look on Saabscene
