Default ATR??

Hi

Just a quicky, is the Accord Type R cheapish to run, ie, the same as a 325 bmw?? as seen one for sale, well nice, but concerned....

Also, if you drive low revs in town, will it improve the mpg alot???

cheers

Hi

It should be better on fuel, parts may be slightly more expensive, not reving the engine hard around town will improve economy.

As a check find out the tyres size and check on www.mytyres.net for prices. Maybe price some parts like brake pads/disks and a clutch change, that should give you an idea of possible costs.

Parts for an E36 are quite cheap as there is a mass of suppliers for them. A clutch change on the E36 is about £250 and the honda will not be likely to come under £400 for example.

Ye I would say the accord should be better than the bmw if you drive it carefully.

I think NotoriousREV calc's are a little out. I nearly fell off my chair when I read that! I just did 120 miles and it cost me £35, so if you were getting 23mpg, mine was truely awful. Mine works out at 18mpg

Yours works out at:
120/(20*0.84 /4.55) = 32mpg

Thats the correct calculation.

120 miles for £35 is awful!

I have an ATR (currently for sale)

Fantastic cars, insurance not too bad, and does not munch fuel in town.

Selling due to new house purchase and need funds for deposit so looking for a BM 3 series or Golf GTI/VR6 for a run around for a while.

Mine is a 2000 X with 57k miles - air con, cat 1 and front fogs over std spec. Looking for £8500

Sorry mate, but I`m going to upset the applecart here, as I`ve just come from a Civic Type R to a Scooby (similar performance to the ATR), and the CTR only returns around 25 to the gallon around town.
If you factor-in some playtime at the weekends, you`ll be lucky to see 23.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

On a better note though, I`ve also owned an E36 325, and I would think that the ATR will be both quicker, and more fun.

Whatever you decide to do, enjoy.

Are you after a fast saloon for little money then !?!? How about the Leon cupra R or the Octavia vRS. You can pick both up for similar money to an Accord ?!?

Unlike some people who've replied, i've actually owned an ATR, for 2 years, now sold.
Fill it up with super unleaded, and with "normal" driving, I used to get 340miles out of 50 litres. That was a daily commute of m/way at 80-85 mph, approx 6 miles of A-roads, and the Heathrow perimeter rd/A4 for 5 miles. So, fairly mixed. Tyres cost me £60 a corner, Falkens. Not the grippiest but good enough for 90% flat out driving. It used no oil, in 18000 miles. Not a drop.
Thats the upside, costs wise anyway.
Now the downside.
My 54000 service cost £700 from Honda.
That included new discs and pads, front, and pads, rear, + a couple of other non-service minor items.
And that was it.
For a 210bhp front driver, it handles superby. Really, like its on rails. Nothing broke, or fell off. No rattles. The Recaro seats are the comfiest things I've ever sat in. The boot is huge. The VTEC makes a lovely noise. Although low down torque isn't much, so drop a gear, or two, if your ovetaking!

Buy one, you wont regret it.

But watch the servicing costs!

I've got an 02 ATR and am happy with it.

Have to say it's not a scoob but then it costs me nowhere near the same to run.

Should be loads cheaper to run than a 325.

Thats stuff I'd do myself infact I've just fitted Black Diamond front disks & pads for a lot less than a Honda dealer.

I own one too.... my 54k service, from a Honda dealer, was quoted as being £270 but I supplied my own oil and air filter so it was £205 incl VAT.

Servicing is not expensive, but if you get a service and alot of other required work it would be expensive with any car.
