Red face Jaguar S-Type 'R'

Was behind one of these today - he noticed me behind and put his foot down

I was surprised how quick it went for a relatively big car - I wasn't expecting it to pull away as well as it did. When I put my foot down I kept up with it , but couldn't say I was gaining on it... Still, was fun trying

I was in a '53 standard STi...

not to be under estimated with its small red badge telling you there is more than meets the eye under the bonnet.

I have heard reports of classic wrx's being well and truly beaten.

don't know how well it fairs on the twisties.

Prices on these are getting more interesting My boss had one and it was a cracking car, very stealthy Good compromise between comfort AND having 400bhp under your right boot.

S Type-R is in a different performance league to any normal scoob.

400bhp, god knows how much torque. They're M5 level.

It's the X-Type that's 4wd - not the S-Type ... unfortunately.

Jag s type "r". 0-60 4.99 secs.........0-100 11.01 secs

sti type uk 0-60 5.49 secs.........0-100 14.99 secs

I don't think he was really trying. With 400 ft lbs of torque, These things will pull 155mph while a standard sti was struggling past 120mph.

I drove one of these when I had my TT supra, it was the best of the Jag R series cars (I drove them all) IMHO and the cheapest. I wouldn't have got rid of my supra for one..................

Still nice pokey luxo barge!

Because he didn't want to risk himself or other road users by chasing you ?
So you "won" then.

Sorry but my brother has one of these as a company car (sales manager for Jaguar) & been in it a couple of times.
I used to have a modified STi & its a lot faster than that was....and you dont even realise how fast you are going until you glance at the speedo.

go to www.racinggreen.co.uk and have a look at what they can do to a jaguar, they take the old style 3.8 and put in a 4 litre turbo charged engine with all of todays mod cons, and they do a lot of work for Jaguar themselves
Cheers

Not being funny but I have a STI8 tuned and a Jaguar XKR Convertible pushing out over 420bhp and 440lb-s torque (Exhaust, remap and pulley) and you can't touch me in a Scoob.

Off the line you might have the edge but once my Jag gets above 20mph it just goes and doesn't stop until 155mph. Put both of them side by side and the Scoob edged it first (Manual) and then the Jag just sailed by.

Can't compare really. But for a big heavy car it handles superbly IMO.

Apart from the "twisties" ... there are also levels of service you can expect.

My experiences of S-Type are nowhere near as good as you guys get from Subaru !

http://www.theLurch.com Some faults you could experience. Also with movies and images.

I wished I had actually bought a Scooby at the time. I was lusting after a STI V5, but then Subaru brought out the Bugeye !!!

Is there anything on the road that can beat a WRX??

I love to come on SN and read posts written by sausage jockeys that tell of their tales of extraordinary feats behind the wheel of their WRX. Fanfukintastic!

by what some of the tdi boys post , the skoda fabia vrs would **** on any evo, skyline, impreza, etc and if you get one re-mapped would probably out-drag ferrari enzo, tvr tuscan, etc whilst still returning 60mpg!
