The crx has got 160bhp in standard trim, with a full exhaust including manifold, induction kit and a vtec controller you would be looking in the region of 190bhp. which makes for a cracking car due to the power to weight ratio.

No experiance on CRX, but used to have am ST. Nice car, fantastic chassis, great brakes (do fade if really spanked from high speeds, predictive thou), but the engine could give so much more. 6th gear is a waste of time unless your on a motorway, no torque from engine (5th is faster than 6th, 2mile straight on Bruntingthorpe). You can turn the ESP off for some *** end fun !! gave me a big grin, so gutted when I had to give her back after being made redundant. Take a test drive, thats what sold me my 1st 2.0 Focus.

focus is slower than a 205
i'd try it for a little while first
good if you enjoy 'sanitised' performance tho'
just not a hot hatch(if thats what you are after)
dunno about the crx

Focus is a nice motor but the 170bhp feels no more than the standard 2 litre unless you rag it. Great chasis though.

Used to have a UK CRX del sol VTi, was a really nice car and sounded fantastic with the exhaust on it. Was never very impressed with the handling of it.
3k is quite cheap for a crx though as they are an old car and because of this there are quite a few things to look out for, I sold mine with nearly 60k on it for 5k a few months ago.
Roof is quite expensive to fix if it is electric, make sure all seals are in good nick to as they are pricey to swap.
Rear calipers are also prone to sticking.
delsoluk.com is a good site for reference as is clubsol.net.
GF has a 1.6 focus and it seems to be a nice car, fairly uninspiring tho.
