Default Fuel comsumption of a BMW318 CI?

My GF has bought a 2000 model of the above and is only getting 230 miles to £50 of normal unleaded!!

Sounds worse than my scoob!

I was thinking of what might be causing it. I am yet to change the plugs, oil and the filters but was thinking it could be the O2 sensor or MAF?

Anyone got any thoughts?

Could be the o2 sensor which connects to the cat. Obviously something very wrong with that MPG, thats about 18mpg and you should get double that.

Our 325 averages 27.9mpg round town!

So something not right, unless she wears lead weighted platform shoes

Sounds on the low side....I dont think you will get more than 25mpg locally though... whihc would equate to about 325 miles on a tank......have you checked the obvious ie tyre pressures etc....

I have an e36 318is as a work horse, and it will do in the region of 270/280ish on 25 squids worth of regular unleaded (on the m/way anyway).... so something is definately not right with that!

Thanks for the replies. I have checked the tyre pressures but not the other obvious stuff like air filter as yet.

I am going to change the lambda sensor anyway just to be sure but do these suffer from crapped up MAF's that need cleaning?
