The old man was about to set off to work this morning at 5 am to find his car sat on his brake disks. His car is a rather nice Mondeo TDCi Zetec S with the optional 18" wheels. It did have 18"s anyay
It might be stuck there till monday with it's nose upto the gararge door Guess what's behind the gararge door................... My Scoob It had an important day today aswell. It was gonna take me to Harrogate to Start my Christmas shopping
There are now 3 of us fighting over Mother's 172
I'm guessing if they want em - they'll have em, so i think Dad is thinking of some std Mondy allys as a replacement

Sorry to here about that. Did they not have locking nuts fitted? If there were, what make were they, then we'd know not to use them.

That is one of those things where you can't win. If you get a flat on the road, you need to be able to change the wheel, so you keep the wheel nut somewhere in the car. Thieving scum know that too. All you can do is keep the car alarmed, somewhere as safe as you can, and hope.

I carry a can of tyre weld instead of a spare now!! It saves about 10kg as well

just don't put it in the centre armrest or the ashtray or where the spare wheel tools are and they will give up pretty quickly.

Or rip the car to bits looking for it - I had that happen a long while back with a face-off stereo whilst they looked for the face plate. Glovebox on the back seat etc - damage was at least as much as value of what they stole.

If they've broken into the car you're already looking at a claim, why prolong it and go to the hassle of having other bits broken when there's no point.

I forgot the best bit. Dad rang the Police as soon as he found out what had happend. They basically said that if they ain't there by mid day (he rang at 5am) then they won't be coming Anyway - the police rang this morning and asked if he could bring the car to them in Leeds. Now obviously if you ring the Police to report some stolen wheels you would think that they would realise he may have a slight problem delivering the car to them
Anyway the car has been picked up by the ins co and is awaiting a new set of spinners and a window.

Next problem. My Dad is thinking of getting a set of std 16" allys to replace his stolen ones as he doesn't want the same to happen again Are there any cheap easy to fit wheel clamps on the market which would put the scum off if he was to get 18"s again?

My mate had his motorbike stolen, when he was down the copshop, the woman taking details asked him if it was left or right hand drive.... When he repeated it was a bike, she just irritatingly repeated "yes, left or right hand drive?"

Make the locking wheel nut key into a key ring. It'll be a little heavy in your pocket but it'll feel solid and you'll never lose it.

Fifteen years ago, found my new MG sitting on it's bare front discs and signs that they'd had a go at the rears to - early rising neighbour disturbed them at 5am. Fitted locking wheel nuts all round next day and guess what, they returned next weekend and being thwarted in the quest for the remaining alloys, used their tubular hex-socket to imprint hexagonal marks in the paintwork by the wheels.... didn't get the wheels though. I can understand taking the wheels, but to deliberately mark the car....

Since then all alloys present and correct.

Great minds and all that...

I drilled a 3mm holes in the side of my locking wheel nuts ( four cars in family) then put it on car's key ring. It's ALWAYS ready if I ever needed and difficult to lose!

Same with the family runabout (ZS) 17" alloy wheels - locking wheel nut always handy even though there's a place for it in the moulded spare wheel insert!
