Default Possible new car -

I was thinking about getting a 200SX or AE86 and learn to
drift.

However, here is the deal. I may be going back to Japan
for good in a year or two from now. So I started thinking,
that it might be an idea for me to get a car I otherwise never
will in Japan, you know. So a few contenders have
suddenly arisen. Let me know what you think of either
of these.

Bear in mind that I will probably keep a diesel 306 I have
for daily runabout, and I will use the other car to do fast
road/track, including a trip or two to Nurburgring next year.

1) BMW M3 Coupe - M-P reg - Cost £7-9k

pro

- a world standard of all modern sports car
- cheaper cost than Elise
- luxury
- good build quality

con

- it's a BMW (will I look like a posing ****?)
- it's a BMW (costly should anything go wrong)
- it's a BMW (nuff said)
- expensive insurance

2) Lotus Elise 135 - R-S reg - cost £9-11k

pro

- it's not a BMW (note how it is the top of the list)
- lightweight sports car, regarded as the most fun car ever!
- looks well cool
- cheaper to run, due to smaller engine, and smaller tyres,
and lighter weight means less stress on brakes or suspension
- cheaper insurance

con

- Rover engine... seen so many broken down ones
- general reliability potentially an issue
- more expensive to buy

Don't know if either of these would be a good idea for me.
I can't really see myself in one of these, but then again, I've
never considered them. What do you think of them? Driven
either before yourself, or know anyone who does? Any opinion
would be great. Thanks

Keigo

Thumbs up

For learning to drift it really has to be the M3, on a track it has to be the Lotus, although i'd rather take the M3 to the 'ring

Must admit BMWs really do have a bad image, but there are afew genuwine enthusiasts out there and once you feel that straight six doing the work you will fall in love! I did and am now on my 4th M car having never looked back

LOL at Greg! Obviously you'd say that I must admit I am leaning slightly towards the M3 as well. I would need to drive in both, first though (hint, hint ^_^ )
