My mates dad has just got an E55 AMG!! OMG!!! it accelerates like a fighter plane. On a private road we went from 70-150 in about a quarter of a mile. I said I want first refusal when he gets shut in two or three years time. Think you'd need a well sorted scobb or evo to keep with it!!

I currently drive the E55 AMG previous model ie. 350bhp and 390ft/lb unsupercharged.
Still bloody fast and wipes the floor with my colleagues WRX on the straights and gives a decent account of itself in the fabled twisties, as long as it is flat....what it cannot cope with at all is crests and compressions, which the WRX excells in. The AMG rises and wallows and bottoms out - not fun in a 2 tonne leviathan!

I got a severe roasting off a 55 AMG a couple of years ago in the UK MY99.
I think its one of the only cars where I had to give up by the time I got into 3rd gear

I raced one in my civic type R. He blitzed me off the lights but i caught him in the corners then overtook him on the straight to his amazment. Wasnt that impressed tbh considering his power. I just wish i had the evo then the traffic light episode would have been short work. Its all about weight im afraid as the AMG is very heavy and the type R is very under estimated.

Does the concept of the Dad letting his young boy beat him at cards ring a bell?
When you caught him on the straights I think he was changing radio stations and chuckling to himself as you drifted past.

Well, owned my C32 for a couple of days now and I'm sorry, but if you think that a Type R would even be on the same straight then you are deluding yourself, Autocar got 0-100 in 10.8 secs, no fuss, no drama, no fluffed gearchanges, the way it accelerates from 60-140 (where it was pulling every bit as hard still but I thought better about hitting the limiter) is astonishing, as for the corners, it may not be a Westfield but it can still handle well enough.
Full report to follow.
It maybe about weight, but when you have 349bhp & 333lbs/ft, the weight is less of an issue as you may think.
Used to have a 320bhp P1 and to be honest, they'd be pretty close to 70 ish, then the C32 would have left it, period.

Latest E55amg
476bhp
1760kg
271bhp/tonne
0-100 - 10.2
Civic Type R
197bhp
1204kg
166bhp/tonne
0-100 - 16.9
I think it's pretty obvious he weren't trying. Although not lightweight and the most nimble, they still do well round the corners, depends how committed the driver is.
Just for comparison, a couple of other cars
WR1
316bhp
1470kg
218bhp/tonne
0-100 - 13.1
My westie
190bhp
600kg (approx)
315bhp/tonne
0-100 - about 10/11
Given the high speed power (where weight is less of an issue and outright power is), even I would be struggling against an E55AMG, a CTR or scoob wouldn't stand a chance.
And let's not compare other things about these 4 cars as they are all totally different apart from being fast and serve different purposes. All great motors nonetheless, can I have all 4 please santa

Scrappydoo, thats the funniest thing I've heard all day! This place is great for comedy value. I've got a C32 AMG and I d'ont race anybody, especially not guys in Civic type anythings! The power is used for fast effective comfortable driving. The guy in the E55 probably did'nt even know you were there. Too busy playing with his Satnav!

I test drove a CTR this am as it happens. Fun but no way could it get anywhere near any AMG produced in the last decade on the straight. It is 4 seconds slower to 100 than my W210 E55 AMG and 2 secs slower to 60.

I dont wish to be rude but a dont think that you can get the feel of a car in a test drive. It took me about a week after running it in to get to grips with the CTR especially on the gearchange. You have to hit it just right to get it back into the V-tec zone. If you ask me the type R is a much more capable car in a straight line than some evos and scoobies, and thats from owning/racing both. If you then mildly tune it would be amazing, strip it down further and you have a touring car.
Whether you guys like it or not the E55 was beaten by my little olde runabout R as after my overtake, he attempted the same on the duel carriageway and didnt get anywhere. Sorry but too heavy!! Nearly 2 tons arnt they?

This happened about half a year ago so it wasnt the new AMG that would have defo killed me but there was no way that this guy could get away from me and he was really trying cross country overtaking lots of other cars in a psychotic manner, bloody fast off the line though but once rolling mine seemed to have an edge.
I then gave up and allowed him to pass as things were getting dangerous and he pulled up by the side of me and stuck his thumb up. I think that if he had the power he would of somehow managed to get past me i just had that feeling.
