Default BMW 525i Touring 1992- Daily driver?

Thinking about getting the above as my daily run about as the scoob costs too much in fuel for my job. Its 1992 on a J plate 136K FSH new tyres, one owner, auto seems fine. Any comments appriciated especially on engine life.

With a fsh and 135k miles it should do the same again if maintained, I'm running a 540 with 279000 miles and its had nothing done to the engine apart from scheduled servicing, it still hits the limiter and pulls like a train, they are pretty bulletproof

The intervals go like so :

Inspection 1
Oil service
Inspection 2
Oil service
And so on

The lights are reset each time the service is done and go out depending on driving styles and obviously mileage.

If you want to do the servicing yourself, which is what i do (my cars done 124k) you can get the reset tools for around £12.00

I own a 3 series and the main thing is oil and filter change.

Like the man said earlier they are bullet proof !!!!!

my missus used to have a 94 525 touring, serviced it myself, bought the bits and draper service tool from german and swedish, only prob we had was some pinking from 3500 to 4500 revs under load, changed the plugs on the last service and all was well, a great car, used to do 25 mpg around town, ours had done about 95k, she sold that after buying a 99 535, that thing drunk petrol and was a money pit, made about £100 on the 525 after 6 months, lost 5k on the 535 in the same time

Yeah, the larger series don't hold there money.
For about 10K you can get a real tasty motor, but like you say a fuel tanker needs to follow you.

A guy that i know from the BMW forum has a neighbour who bought a 750i for
12K.the car had a full Hamman conversion and cost, get this...... 100k !!!!!

Crazy depreciation

My mates actually looking for a 5 Series.. he has a 1K budget and I was surprised at the huge selection out there. I would stick with the big 6's on the higher miles and of course as much paperwork as possible.

The 5 series only ever ran with inline 6 engines.

Only the 3 series had 4 pots.

There was a 518i which was woefully underpowered.

Watched the Wheeler Dealer's episode the other day where they bought a 3 series touring for £900, needed a new bonnet and exhaust but it looked stunning after it had been de-tangoed and cleaned up properly.

Was quite tempted to go and get one...

I bought a 1996 BMW 525iSE Touring earlier in the year. I found it too boring a car after six weeks and sold it. It could sup the fuel though, you use the gas pedal too much and you are very rapidly down to scoob fuel consumption. It is more of a cruiser though and very good at that.

Nothing wrong with the car at in remarkable condition for it's age.
