My everyday car is a ford ka.
But at the weekends i will trade down to the elise
I plan on doing a first lotus training day in the new year to learn how to drive it properly.
Then in the spring it might see a track.

Thats the one thing that worries me a bit.
You can get away with murder in the scooby, but the elise has no abs, brake servo's or power steering.
Its alot like driving a go cart
Until i have had some tuition, i will take it very easy.

Nothing to do with no ABS etc, it's to do with having an engine behind you!!!
Don't try anything adventurous on the road with it until you have mastered it on track.
you will enjoy it. Best road car going in my opinion.

Ahhhh nice choice. I ran one of these for a year, (after my WRX + Westfield) and I must say, I always thought nothing would put a smile on my face like the scoob (apart from a tasty bird) but I was wrong, the elise was every bit as much fun as the scoob, and I'm pining for another, but I'm afraid it had to go to fund a house deposit, and now I'm on a Transit + 206 HDi. Well, I'm still looking, and the prices Ive seen some of the low mileage examples about now is crazy. Lots of £10K models about (not 111). Good luck, and take it easy with the right foot until you get that training. They are EASY to balance on the throttle, you can hold 'em sideways steering with your little finger, get that traing booked, and book some track days. Lucky devil.

Thanks all.
I thought if i dont do it now, i never will.
I originally started out looking at low milage standard s1 at around 12k.
Then i got invited on a seloc lotus track day and was taken out in a 111s
I have got the scooby up for sale still, but if i cant find a buyer, its going in for a part ex. If this happens though, the wheels brakes and a few other bits are coming off and will go up for sale.
I will be sad to see the scooby go though.

Hi Greg,
Good choice of car - I've just bought an Elise S1 as well . I've always wanted to own one and finally took the plunge as I reckon they're good value now.
How you finding it after the Scoob? Personally I'm finding I'm having to rediscovering all my favourite roads again as it drives so differently.

Good luck m8. I took the plunge about 2 years ago and love it to bits. Elise and Scoobs are chalk and cheese in comparison, but both offer affordable performance to people who are more interested in the driving experience above anything else. I was lucky enough to keep both Scoob and Elise as I traded the 4dr sccob for a 5dr scoob at the same time, hence I have the sensible family car as well as the Lotus.
I will re-iterate what people have said about the handling in the wet. Unless you have had a reasonable amount of RWD experience, the Liz can catch you out. I span the car twice quite early on, but I'm getting a bit more used to it now. (Was going to say that I've got it sussed, but if I'd written that I;d probabyl crash next week. Oh, I have written..oh well). It just takes a while to get used to the amount of traction at the back whilst on lock, on a damp day. Also, I'd never had a RWD car so never really driven the car "with my bum", if you see what I mean. All things considered, I've really enjoyed learning how to drive the thing, it sort of reminds me of learning to ride a motorbike as when you get a corner right it feels so effortless and fun, but if you corner kack-handedly it doesn't disguise the fact that you've mucked it up.
Another thing you will miss is the turbo boost and acceleration. The Liz is fairly fast, but never really feels that fast acceleration wise. If you are interested in tuning the engine, then visit www.dvapower.co.uk or www.ptp-ltd.co.uk.
Enjoy!
Andy

Tomorrow is the big day
I noticed when i took it for a test drive that it did'nt have the same surge of power in the mid range, but as you say, its a completely different driving experience.

You'll have to pop it round sometime matey !!
As others have said, take it easy with the RWD when its wet, it's all to easy to lapse into scoob mode round a damp island, sideways, weeeeeeheeeeeeeeee. Looks cool tho
Enjoy.

Welcome to the world of RWD, SELOC, and join LOT if you are going to track it.
18 months in with my car now, enjoying it as much now as when I picked her up all that time ago.
Andy (1st Lotus) is excellent, you will be amazed what you can get the car to do.

Scooby has gone now
Took it nice and easy on the way home in the elise.
I intend on booking with 1st lotus in around feb - march.
It would be nice to be shown how to respond if it does get a little sideways pear-shapped
And the modding has started already...
A ss sports exhaust and k&n filter was fitted prior to me picking it up

Congratulations on your new car, mate! How's it going. Been a while, mate.
Strange, this, you getting rid of Scooby for a Lotus. Since I sold mine, I have been looking to get other cars, but now thinking about an Elise myself. An older one than yours, I think. About R-S reg. Might need to have a chat soon, mate. YHM soon

Just think, you can dress up in a few weeks in a red costume and a white beard...
People will think you're Santa in his little sled !
(But being towed by the AA rather than Donner, Blitzen, etc. )
