BMW 318 CI Coupe. About to buy one, need advice
The car is ok apart from a little paint that needs sorting. I need to know what it will cost for servicing parts? Are they reasonably priced? What am I to expect if servicing it myself?
The car will cost £8500 and a grumpy old N reg escort as part of the deal. It has 105000 on the odo and is in good all round condition with leather trim and electric windows but no CD player in the boot? It does have some nice replica 17" M3 alloys.
Does the price seem about right?
Any thoughts? Its for the girlfriend

Instead of the e46 318ci, id buy a later e36 328sport instead for that cash...
Wont lose as much money in depreciation, much faster and more toys.......
Arguably better looking too- but thats down to the individual.

318?? Nice car but for similar (e.g the same) money you can get a 320. Engine is a mile better, more efficient (yep it is) and quicker. Will sell easier and better to drive.
Up to you though...

Miles are damn high for a 4 y/o car as other have said i would go for the 320ci. The 1.8's are not quick by any means and even overtaking on the move will be a chore.
2L straight 6 is better on fuel and in every way on the road.
Drive a 2L and see the big difference for yourself.

They start having problems over 100K, one of my mates was beginning to get troubles with his, so he got rid. Surprised it doesn't have a cd changer in the boot, thought they all did, unless its a low spec one. Also as has been said, if you can anyway afford one with a better engine then serious consider it. The 318Ci that I had for a while was boring to drive and felt really underpowered.

Thanks
Thanks for the input everyone.
I also think the miles are high, but after an AA inspection (done to protect me against the girlfriend and family) all seems to be well.
The price does seem a little high but it is in good condition and has all the toys the gf wants, ie "the leather matches our 3 piece suite". It drives really well and is better than I thought it would be, although "skin" and "rice pudding" spring to mind.
Managed to get a CD player out of the dealer and all the little dents scratches sorted out, so its nigh on mint now.
I too would have gone for the bigger engine but the gf has had a 1.3 escort for the last 5 years so anything is an improvement.
Thanks again.
