Thumbs down BMW Driver Shocker

Heading down the road yesterday to pickup my car (03 STi) from the dealer a drive of about 45 miles, I'm in their 04 STi demonstrator and I pass a guy in a black BMW 330ci about 5 miles into my journey. The guy looks across at me as if to say "I'm in a BMW how dare you overtake me". I wasn't accelerating past him just doing a constant speed, so I pull in ahead of him and continue on my way. So what does he do, speed up and overtake me I just shake my head and laugh, but the worst thing that I couldn't believe was that I followed this guy all the way till I had to turn off the Dual Carriageway (40 miles) and in that time he only moved into the left hand lane twice and that was probably for no more than a minute.

It's the old BMW syndrome I'm afraid. Get in BMW and remove brain, put on blinkers and away you go.

330ci is a pretty quick car (only one to bother with if you don't get the M3) I have to work my 250bhp Escort RS Turbo to beat them and off the line I'm completely knackered. If I'm rolling however it's bye bye Beemer

My neighbour actually has a 330ci and the other day I was coming home in the Mrs car (03 WRX) when he spotted me coming off a roundabout as he was crossing over. He tried his best to catch me but I pulled away slightly. Parked up in the garage and had a wee chuckle to myself, Just as well I wasn't in my car or it would have been a different story him

Not wishing to offend but what is it with 330ci drivers? do they feel they have to prove a point - perhaps its because they couldn't afford an M3?

I've never seen a 330ci being driven in a sensible manner. One whiff of a bonnet scoop and they all go mental.

It's not just the 330 brigade mate. As soon as you've got the BMW badge on you are unbeatable. Well the number of 325's that seem to think they're going to blow me into the weeds seem to think so. They always look so offended as I leave them for dead. The old "what the f*** was that?" expression cracks me up everytime

Ah yes the illusive BMW indicator pack, not even standard on the M3 apparantly. Shocking to spend all that money on a rep wagon that hasnt even got indicator bulbs - In fact they spend soooo much of their company car allowance on them they cant even afford car kits and have to drive one handed everywhere - ohhhh the hardship!!
Lose the loser stigma and get an Octavia - they have indicators and everyfink!!!

Why is it that BMW seem to be afflicted with more of their fair share of **** drivers?

I'd have an Audi everytime over BMW without hesitation. In fact I did.

All it means Alas is that good driver or not and previous scoob owner or not, you now drive a car that is stereotypically driven by tw@ts. You might not be one good sir, but proportionately you are but of a tiny weeeeenie minority in BMW world.
Many cars have stereotypes and this thread is blessed with pointing the long pointy sh1tty end of the stick at BMW drivers... Ah well!

Not at all. You may well be in the elite group of none twatish BMW drivers. And for my money the worst drivers are usually in Rovers. They tend to be driven by people who don't even realise what year we are in.

here here...everytime I've had some sort of run in with another driver, it always seems to be a xantia or xsara.

I also have probs with Saxo's, but that's usually more to do with an immature streak in the other driver

These days the BMW stereotype is changing. Recently I've found that the car that's just cut me up/tailgating me/driving like an **** is an Audi or VW of some description.

Scooby drivers are of course courteous, sensible and better looking than drivers of lesser vehicles.

Everyone on here who is focusing on a car brand, rather than the bad driver is showing typical mental weakness..

hope that helps

Saxo, saxo, saxo, saxo, saxo.. Christ.. I've got one and I don't drive like a ****! Sure I like surprising the odd 'fast' car, especially coming off the roundabout from the M62 towards Pontefract, but otherwise I'm courteous and have good road manners. Hell I even stopped the car in the p!ssing rain to help a couple of lads push their escort off the road whilst everyone else crawled past them beeping their horns at the kids' audacity for breaking down there. Not everyone who drives a BMW is a *** and not everyone who has a VTS is a chav. In fact the VTS is group 16 therefore putting it way out of the insurance league for teenagers.

Although VTR, 1.4i Furio and Westcoast drivers are often ****

Oh the VTS is for sale by the way, see here for details http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=378170

With 250 to play with I'm surprised you say that; probably adhesion limits or maybe driver technique ...... My bog-standard Tomcat Turbo with a mere 208 (optimistic RR I reckon .. ) has outperformed two 330ci drivers recently who really thought they were 'all that', as well as an 04 540i, both rolling and from a standing start. There is no question in my mind that these 'Bavarian Sierras' (more common than Fords locally) do appear to attract a 'certain' type of driver. I wonder if that shows in the Insurance stats.

Using the Tomcat as a yardstick, any half decent Subaru should make easy meat of these highly regarded Bavarian products ....

Based on my observations over the past ten years, I have come up with a theory ... many BMWs now appear to be driven by those who want to demonstrate "I'm a success obviously - I drive a BMW" rather than car enthusiasts ..... like many theories ... could be one or two lopholes...

One thing for certain, when the humble Monty turbo leaves some of these over-rated krautmobiles for dead .. in the words of Cpl Jones .... "They don't like it up 'em Cap'n Mainwaring..."

Any road up, be careful out there .. whatever you drive....

The worst drivers I have come across tend to be those behind the wheel of a VW Passat (especially the TDI version) or a Ford Focus (plus the obligatory white van).

I now drive an e46 328, so I guess that driving skills have all gone to pot now.

BMW drivers think they are special, they have made it and that they dont have to abide by the normal rules, what they dont realise is that its hard to be special in a car that outsels the Mondeo. Not all BMW drivers are like this but there is a greater percentage of **** in BMW's, in fact Merc and Audi drivers seem to have jumped on the bandwagon a bit as well. 330i drivers do tend to have an attitude, not as bad as the 330d drivers labouring under the mis aprehension that they can take on just about anything and win, sure they are quick FOR A DIESEL but they aint that quick.

However, Green old shape Lagunas are by far the worst driven car on the planet.

Oh and fog light season is upon us, ooo ooo ooo my car has fog lamps, I am so special, please look at me.

Unless your female , my gripe usually is with young twenty something female saxo drivers who seem to have PMT and cannot see beyond the 3ft of road space between the car infront of them. And if you happen to make a point of it....woe betide the outcome!

Geeze, I've got less aggro from my G/f after she found out I've been sleeping with her sister

The old "lax power" saxo lads I think have long gone...either smashed them up or moved up to a better car....like a scooby (it's true, and most old school owners are in denial).

Why is it when a scooby driver see's an M3 they have to try and race?

Or drive through houses:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...1&page=1&pp=25

Every time I see a scooby driver in my rear view mirror & notice he see's me I just laugh as I slow down a bit and wait as they always go into show off mode.
Here comes the loud exhaust.

Cant believe there's still some sado's on here moaning about BMW drivers YOUR no better.

Driving like a **** is not marque specific, I'm sure we've all been cut up etc by all sorts of car makes. Whether it be bodykitted 1.1 litre chavs, 1.7TD reps, road hogging 4x4 drivers or otherwise.

Problem with BMW's is they are just so common nowadays, so although the %age of idiotic BMW drivers is probably the same as any other marque, there's just more of them on the roads !

Although I do have to say, I have come across a number of BMW drivers that feel the need to try and prove a point. (Notice the word 'try' )

BMW's are good cars, but I'd never have one personally.

Well actually I am, you see if you read the post properly you will notice that said BMW driver did not follow the highway code and move into the left-hand lane when the road ahead was clear, as opposed to myself who always indicates first then moves across back into lane after I have passed someone.

Think we have touched a raw nerve with this guy

nah you havn't touched a raw nerve at all.

Used to be a Scooby driver loved the car trouble is every man and their monkey have one now hence why I got out.

Yes BMW's are common but M3's are not anywhere near as common as a scooby now there everywhere.
Not knocking it as there a great car.

Trouble is you can pick up a scooby now for less than £5k and it now means the young boy racer gets them, shame but there you go.
Probably why this post exists, just the sado's amongst you.

Anyway better go and put another BM on the road, hog the right hand lane , turn me fogs on as its sunny and get that huge noisy exhaust burbling away( oops dont have 1 of them anymore)

It seems to be a German car thing: BMW/Merc/Audi/VW seem to attract a certain type of smug aspirational thrusting, arrogant personality. I saw a woman in an SLK 320 on her phone today pulling some appalling lane weaving and undertaking moves on the A2/M2.

Now, I actually drive a Merc but try to be a bit considerate, unless provoked of course when I admit to utilising 350bhp to crush any insurgency in my path.

Cos scooby drivers aren't erratic are they. Thrashing around, setting off car alarms. Dump valves dumping. bleed valves bleeding, boost devices boosting. Driving up everyones **** wanting to race. Thinking they've the fastest car on the planet this side of Ferrari.

Or is that a vast generalisation? Wouldn't ever wanna do that!!

There are ***** in any/all types of car. You just notice it more when it's a BMW.

I guess it boils down to if it was a Audi/Honda etc owner that had done this I would have still posted up XXXX Driver Shocker, it's just unfortunate that it was a BMW driver.

Scoobs are getting a bad reputation as boy racer cars as they are now in the lower price bracket for older models. In fact most people think I am a boy racer because I have one, and I own an 03 STi. So looks like we all get tared with the same brush no matter how old you or the car is
