Id say they were pretty even to be honest. The JDM GT4 also has more power than its uk counterpart.

If you mean the ST205, they're a nice drive, not a stormer, but tunable. Power output of the JDM is quoted as higher only due to higher octane fuel, the engines are identical. Lot of car for the money, £7k will get you a nice 94/95 car. Only real diff in spec UK vs JDM is lack of airbags on pre '97 JDM's and ABS was an option you won't find on some JDM. Later facelift post 96 are nicer looking/better interior but not many of those around and they can't be imported to the UK at the mo (I know, I tried!).

Didnt think they were that great, guy at work getting one, pretty much standard pushing a claimed 400+BHP and boasting how it will toast my PPP, full decat classic. Couldnt be arsed to argue, let him think that if it make him happy, just had a feeling they were not that much of a beast. Just hope he wont be to dissapointed when he gets it!

Standard for standard the figures are pretty even, and if it has the 400bhp he claims you have no chance imo!!!

Unless it is seriously modded, it won't be 400 hp. They are 240HP standard, be about 280hp with a boost controller running 1.1 bar, exhaust & filter. 400HP is a stage 3 tune, with bigger turbo etc.... but you may want to take a look under the hood first!!

Bullet proof mechanics.... a bit slow off the mark due to the excess weight!

Mine was no quicker than a 205 GTI on take off....

The Subaru is a completely different beast....

Still it's a good car just crazy heavy!

I have driven my mates ST205 a fair bit, whilst owning a MY99 4dr Turbo as well.

The ST205 is MUCH better built than the Subaru, the doors thud when you close them, which didnt happen in my Scoob.

It is a quick car, claimed 240bhp for Uk cars and 250bhp for the JDM cars. However, when it was completely standard, my friends pushed 270bhp on a reliable dyno.

Since then he's added a panel filter and a Blitz Boost Controller running 1.1-1.2bar of boost. Its changed the car, feels alot more responsive now.

My Impreza was running a full de-cat, and induction kit.. c250bhp if I was lucky?!

We raced both our cars up at Crail, and his best was a 13.6 @ 98, where as mine was 13.3 @ 102mph.

I disagree with the "slow off the mark claim"..... His 0-60ft time is 1.6 at best with consistant 1.7/1.8's and my very best was a 1.8.. Mostly 1.9/2.0sec though. So I was playing catch up all the way.

Another guy I know is running a gReddy boost controller, de-cat downpipe, full exhaust system and induction kit.. he managed a 12.8 second run at Crail on the same day.

Once they have been de-catted that really opens them up in the higher gears (3rd onwards)

Check out www.gt4oc.com for all the details you'll ever need!!

Cheers,
Grant

JDM & UK are same power on 97/98 ron ...239bhp

JDM doesnt usually come with Airbags or ABS but will have climate control & leccy wing mirrors

Face lift in '96 comes with lower three legged wing, side skirts & nice 6 spokes ...Interior is the same iirc ...unless it came with Recaro's ...which was a factory fit option

Look out for WRC's ...big wing, bonnet spoiler & unplumbed IC spray bar & anti-lag (for homogalation)

Weight was 1415kg when i weighed mine ...so not that much different from a Gralé EVO or Escort Cossie ...not sure where the lardy myth came from? probably from its previous incarnation ...the ST185

Performance figures are:

5.7 to 60
1/4 13.8
Top Speed 137 (Big wing) ...although ive seen 165 on my clock with the lower wing (so probably 150'ish)

Have tussled with a few Scoobs ...PPP classic is quicker ...but not by much!

ive got a st205 wrc and you dont see many about compared to scoobies . cheaper insurance too was for me compared to wrx insurance

personal preference as anything i think a decent filter/exhaust decat boost to 1.1bar and your around 280 to 310 depending on conditon of engine .

our GT4 (St205WRC) ran at 274 bhp, with only a panel filter in it. Torque was 244. And that was all BEFORE we put the castrol stickers on - apparently that can add an extra 10 bhp!!!!

I used to want a scooby until I drove the 4. It just feels so much better built, and more solid.

the VSV reduces boost in lower gears (1st and 2nd) which may cause them to be slow off the line. one of the first mods is to disable it and use a boost controller.

and we have ABS in it - it was an option on the JDM acrs I think

Yeah I forgot about the turbo only giving 1/3rd of full boost in 1st and 2nd gear....

That would be why it felt heavy on take off!

0 - 60 mph in around 7.6 seconds my mates clio 16 V would beat it!

it was a bit depressing.....

Oh it was the ST 185.

Well there you go then - they are a tad heavier! in fact, when we go on runs we usually offer to take one of the lads bonnets - just to even the weight out a bit!!!

That's really odd because mine was definitely stickered with a kerb weight (not dry weight or anything) of 1440 kgs. Honest

Weird? ...my ST205 weight is stamped on the chassis plate as 1360kg ...& thats definatley 'dry weight' ...because the 1415kg was with a full tank ...& that was for both my WRC & the missus's 205

Maybe yours has been on the Atkins Diet

The only thing I can think of, and this is a shot in the dark, is that part of the face-lifting on my JDM ST185 (it was an L reg so the last one made) was to do away with some of the fat bits. Other than that I'm at a loss. TBH the thing went pretty well and boosted much higher than I was told it should on GT4OC and there were certainly no boost controllers or relief valves in sight.

Not on paperwork, but they were fitted. Mind you, so was a in-car air dehumidifier and an electric air freshener dispenser widget. I was thinking when I had it that the guy was a bit soft, underlined when I found the wrapper for a 'sanitary product' under the driver's seat. I was the first UK owner

As previously said, its the ST185 that was the heavy version. St205 was about 1400 - 1450kg depending on which report you read.
Also the ST205 only had limited boost in 1st gear (easily rectified) Very easy to get a reliable 280 - 300bhp from too.
At the end of the day we all love our cars dont we, pro's and cons to both!

Long with the 4wd Turbo nutter machines
