Audi RS6
Hello. I am thinking of changing the 996 for something a little more practical. I'd be interested to hear your views on the RS6. They seem to have depreciated a lot... The main dealers have some for £39k!
I have heard mixed things about these cars so would be grateful for any feedback/views you have.
I plan to get testdriving quite soon.

I've never considered a fast factory supplied Audi *fun*. They are very capable and quick, make amazingly good A road cars, but the driving experience isn't a patch on a 'proper' sports car. To be honest you are much better off getting a standard A6 and a weekend toy in my humble opinion..if feel and feedback are important to you. If it's just a status symbol you are after though, the Audi's are great we are about to buy an A3 Sportback as a second-ish car.

PS owned the S4 and S3, and driven an RS6..compared those to the impreza's I've owned and the 22B and C4S I have now....but it's all very subjective.

Well my histroy of cars doesn't exactly shine as being the best drivers cars in the world, however i am amazed to see people's views on this car. As far as i was concerned it is an absolute monster, and for an 'out the box car' it is phenominal !

I know the above is simply copy and pasted, but bare in mind the GT2 is a proper sports car v's a humble saloon car - doesn't look to bad from here - but i have never had the pleasure of driving one so i just go by the tech spec -

Get yourself across to http://www.rs246.com and ask the question of some RS6 (standard and tuned) owners.

I sold my modded RS4 recently to buy a Type 25 and a Forester STi for the Mrs only because I wanted something a bit more nimble on B roads. The RS4 is a better car when modded than the RS6 IMHO as the 6 is alot bigger and wallows. A good RS4 is going to cost you £35k plus another £10k for 460bhp, suspension and brakes, remember also that the RS4 was limited to about 4000 cars worldwide and about 400 were brought into the uk, the RS6 is "just" a production line car.

Mog, what sort of performance do you get from an RS4 with 460bhp? I'm particularly interested in 0-100mph time and 0-125 as well. The standard car is 17s to 125mph

Timed on a wet day at bruntingphorpe with vbox equipment at PVW shootout
an RS4 with 450 bhp
0-60 5 seconds with 0-100 in 12.26 seconds
mine also on a wet day for PVW 0-60 6.55 0-100 13.3
looks like i would be catching up after getting traction :-)

3.9 seems a strange accurate figure to guess at if not quite right!!!!!!!!

dialynx's quattro does it bwteen 2.9 and 3.5 and that has around 500 bhp
so 3.9 seems a bit optimistic to me for 350 bhp - maybe a one off perfect launch with hardly any fuel in the tank

I think the time difference between the RS4s times and the T25 maybe down to the RS4 being owned by a someone who has to pay to fix it if it blows up. If memory serves there was a Nogaro RS4 at the VMax meetings with 550BHP which was a bit faster than that (apparently the Nitrous wasn't working on the day !).

the figures look about right for a standard RS4 but it was wet according to PVW and its at Bruntingphorpe which is a crappy surface and slightly uphill
maybe he only had one go, maybe he had over 1/2 a tank of fuel
A dialynx TT with an S4 engine running over 450 bhp at the same shootout
posted 4.34 and 10.83
when i did it for PVW is was wet i only had 2 goes, i had over half a tank of fuel. both my launchs were crap with my racelogic traction control cutting in too agressively but the 60-100 time isn't too far away from what it should be with over 300 bhp comparing it to figures i've seen in EVO and autocars 0-100 challenge
quicker than a new M3 according to the figures in Evo :-)
