Second Car
Okay aside from the obvious answer 'neither mate they're crap' Any thoughts on which of these would make a best choice as a second car?
a) 2004 Toyota Corolla T3
b) 2004 Renault Megane 1.6
Thanks

Neither really my cup of tea, but if I had to choose, I go with the Toyota.
- It's Japanese
- It will be reliable
- Relatively cheap to service
- Bits won't fall off
- It doesn't have a ridiculous **** that the manufacturer thinks will become a 'feature' of the car if they keep making adverts about it

2nd car?
I wouldn't have either of those as a 10th car! .... yes, I jest .....
Seriously, I'd go for the 'shake a lil rrrrst frogmobile' - reliability - bits falling off - can happen to any car!
I recently recovered a work colleague's Corolla from Gatwick for him which had broken down whilst on the way to the airport. Guess what... needed a replacement cylinder head - head gasket damaged - so not all Corollas have that bullet proof reliability.

More likey a one-off than a trend John. Just had a quick look at a few JD Power results for 2004. In Germany, Toyota come top for the third year running, winning 3 categories outright (including the Corolla). It was miles ahead to be honest - Renault were 15th way below industry average (Subaru were 3rd ). Similar story in most countries in Europe and the States. You'd struggle to find many people who would rank a Renault above a Toyota for reliability, which probably has to be the top priority for a car such as this.

Thanks guys
I'd forgotten the JD Power survey.
We are likely to use the car in France 3 or 4 times a year so if it was the Renault then I guess we would find plenty of garages!
Looks like Toyota at the moment if we can get a deal at the local dealership not easy so far.

Does style and image come into the equation? I do agree that the Toyota Corolla has an impeccable reliability record and everyone rates it ...... but I'd still go for the Megane if I had to choose between the two. I don't think there's really any such thing as a bad new car any more in terms of reliability - blimey, even Skodas are really VW now!
Have you considered a Ford Focus TDCi ? I would think that these ought to be good on running costs and, with the amount of Fords out there, the initial purchase cost ought to be relatively low ...... assuming you meant "2004" as in "nearly new" rather than "brand new out of the factory".

Silverstrike If only mate. The quote was 'why would I want a sporty car?' You know someone's sporty is someone else's bumpy ride and noisy exhaust!

The Ford is unlikely as it seems like the dealers won't get out of their chairs for a measly £10k sale
