£8K 4WD Drive- Which car (not scooby!)
I know, I know - making that statement is almost blasphemous!
(you guys seem to come up with some really good ideas so I thought I would try and stretch you a bit)
So... I have £8K, would like a 4WD and have tried some (very nice) Audi Quattro's. Has anyone got any other ideas.... I'm after subtle, so EVO and Scoob is out... Plus not 'off-road' 4WD 'cos I'm not that arrogant or inconsiderate
Thanks!

'cos I presently have a Calibra Turbo and MUCH prefer the driving feel of such a car.
It's like it's been said before.. once you've driven 4WD you don't want to go back to anything else

What you want to try (if you havent already) is a '92 on Audi S2 true 230BHP+ shedloads of torque, 6 speed box, only bumpers & interior and seperate it from a standard Coupe.
You can't get more subtle. And most of all you get to hear the glorious sound of that 5 cylinder engine every day. P.S with a little care they will last forever hence will give you the best return possible when it comes to selling.

Celica GT-Four - looks debatable, (no worse than calibra) , but pretty good performance - getting a little old, but they quite reliable, you'll easily pick one up in that price range. Bit different, as they were mainly overshadowed by Subrarus and Evo's..

If you want subtle and aren't too bothered about ultimate handling (which, since you have a Calibra, I suspect you aren't - sorry, couldn't resist), how about the Volvo V70 R awd? - very comfy, very quick and can fit looooaaaaaaads in them).

Zero cred, zero looks, best all-rounder I've ever owned ? - Octavia 4x4 turbo with very safe 220bhp remap.
(p.s. I've owned 3 Imprezas, 3 Legacies, 2 A4 Quattros, 1 GT4, plus 4 other 4x4 'cars')
Great for visiting Ireland last week as well - crappy Kerry roads...

Octavia 4X4 is about a subtle as it gonna get and you can do loads of mods on them. check out the BRISKODA website. They're a top bunch of guys as well. Q-car and Badge snobbery combined you can't beat that for pure subtleness.

If I wanted to spend 8k and needed 4WD then it would have to be an Evo Integrale.
For that money you should be able to pick up a good car with full history.
I personally would go RWD, maybe a 3 door cossie as they wont lose their money and are great cars or as I did and get an E30 M3. Bags of cred, never lose a penny and go like stink

Good point about the Mazda a guy who drives around where I live has an Import high tuned by the sound and speed of it. They are small though...I guess it depends what you're looking for.

What about a low mileage Legacy Turbo (Newest model was a K-Reg I think). You can get it in Saloon or Estate. Pretty quicky and subtle especially if you keep the exterior standard. The problem is most of them are of high mileage. Some you can get for as cheap as £2000 or even less...just an idea maybe?

Some really good ideas bouncing around at the moment - thanks
Which of the Skodas had 4WD? (the idea of badge snobbery never appealed... hell I drive a VX fer chrissakes!)

The Octavia "4x4turbo" - comes in one spec (elegance) and one engine (1.8T, 150bhp standard, 220+ remapped) most around are estates but there *are* hatches about also (they just did not make many of them)
8k should get you a 00\01, depending on miles etc.

Forget the Golf V6 4motion .. the Bora V6 4motion is the real bargain. Significantly cheaper than the Golf, albeit harder to find. Excellent spec too!
A trip to somewhere like AmD would yield some useful extra horses too!
