Lordy Lordy Now She's Thinking about a VW Beetle.
It's getting serious.
I knew she wouldn't even consider a CTR or a Scoob. Was willing to test drive a Seat Ibiza but hated the interior. Just looked at the Skoda and laughed. The Mini Cooper S was 99% certain. I was pleased. They're a bit of a laugh, overpriced but handle well and are fun (Plus the list of mods is fantastic)
We just wanted a sensible delivery time. The delivery time is.... if we order one now we'll get it in December.
So, ***** to that one then.
So she had us visit VW today. Looked at the mighty 2ltr (0-60 10.9). About 15K or so (but jam jar etal are giving them away for about 2k less) Now the salesgirl had one fine set of tubes (huge but well shaped) so I was distracted a little and didn't notice how seriously the missus was considering it.
I could have stopped all this.....
Before I knew it-test drive tommorrow at 10:30.
Oh and get this. Delivery? 2 weeks. 2 weeks! Jeez if thats true...Well those Mexican fellas are quick with a spanner or....Nobody is buying them. Nobody.
DamB You VW!!

If she is dead set, get the TDI, chipped they have a lorra lorra torque!
What about the Seat Leon, that's cooper money, nice interior, not that different to a Golf, hold on it is a golf
Seriously take out a Cupra R or Cupra TDI, both amazing cars, they look nice, good body kit, nice alloys, chunky interior, and you'll be surprised at the power and handling.
I'd rather have one of those than the above alternatives, (tested them all).

Have seen a few Beetles for sale that look "okay".. 2.3V5 engine, twin exhausts.. With big BBS wheels they are passable and look a bit like the RS one.. From a girly point of view the off-white cab ones with a blue roof are quite classy looking (nicer than it sounds anyway!)

mate at work bought a brand new bettle 100bhp tdi.hes had a lot of problems
from light bulbs blowing to dash instruments needing replaced twice.and now its stalling all the time.hes not impressed with dealers either and says he wont buy another vw product.apart from reliability issues he likes it but is worried when the warranty runs out.

The test drive should hopefully kill any desire she has for one! My other half had convinced herself she wanted a convertable beetle (after owning a convertable golf) test drove one (which she could of had in a couple of weeks) after much badgering from myself test drove a mini cooper (waiting list of 3 months) and ordered the mini
She's not a car enthusiast but even she could see that the mini was a much better car in just about every department.

Help
She Loved it. Especially the built-in flower vase (I ab-sol-ult-ely kid you not) to to the left of the steering wheel
Have a single solitary chance tomorrow. A Lupo Gti test drive at 12 o'clock.
Pray for me.

Man the new beetle is like the most pointless car ever IMO. I mean, it's a barely-ok golf chassis made completely useless by a body that gives a higher center of gravity and eliminates most rear space and headroom with the silly sloping back just to look "retro". Plus they are heavy and with gutless engines. And can't handle. And have a flower pot on the dash!!!!
A pointless design and marketing exercise aimed at, IMO:
1 - g a y hairdressers (even normal hairdressers wouldn't touch one)
or
2 - car-clueless women
or
3 - wannabe-hippie yuppies
Sad sad stuff, feel sorry for you

When she goes to sleep tonight I may try and plant subliminal messages in her head. I'll whisper "The car is craaaap, I will leave youuuuuu, if you buy itttttttt "people will think I'm gayyyyy if I drive itttttt"

The dealer was Sytner City.
Delivery is scheduled for 28th September but they've said it *may* arrive a week or 2 earlier.
Cheers!
