Car Supermarket Etiquette
Can you haggle? I'm sure I can, but will it actually get me anywhere?
Looking for a 03 reg Seat Leon, and there's one at a good price up in Castle Donnington - not sure if it's the done thing to haggle. Is it worth asking for stuff like car mats and a tank of petrol, or is even that a no-no at a Car Supermarket?

I'd be expecting a reply along the lines of : "we already discount our cars heavily sir, which unfortunately means that we cant take anything else off them"
But give it your best shot anyway!!

I bought my wifes clio from there - just make sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb and check everything - scratches, kerbed alloys, tyres etc. adn get it in writing that they will fix anything you point out and agree as part of the sale! They won't budge on the price but will on the condition - full valet and touch up etc.
Remember they don't sell cars, they sell finance

my mate and I went to buy him a Golf GTI from a supermarket. As soon as he got out the cash (alot btw), the salesman and manager walked away!! we'd travelled quite a distance to get there too...........
Wouldn't use one ever again.

For the sake of asking for car mats and a tank of fuel, probably both totalling to no more than £100, im sure they are not going to refuse. If they do, call their bluff and say ,ok no deal then.
They are not going to loose a deal for the sake of some mats and fuel.
When i bought my car 3 years ago ( new ) i finalised a price and was happy with it, then asked them to throw in the mats etc or i was pulling out, they soon threw the mats in.

I know someone who used to work for Trade Sales. He would walk away from a customer who was trying to get a discount of £25 at one point.
They will not give you a penny off, as they can sell that car you want 10 times over that same day - the stock turnaround is beyond belief...
The best bit was when the customer caved in an hour later & came back to buy it & it had been sold elsewhere.
Thats the way it should be IMO - screen price or goodbye, just because it's a car why should you get a discount? you dont try & get a discount from Tesco's when they ring it through the till!

My last car came from a car supermarket and my friend came with me as he was interested in buying a car from them as well.
I asked them what discount they would give us if we both bought a car from them and they said nothing. As has already been mentioned they make their money on the finance, not on the car and there will always be someone else who is willing to pay the screen price.
We did both end up buying the car from them in the end but we both paid cash.

Be carefull with car supermarkets. One of them (Carcraft I think) had its own hate website for ages until they had it closed down.
Not known for after sales service, and as mentioned - if you offer cash they can turn nasty

I thought car supermarkets were only for the folk with poor credit ratings so I'm amazed anyone would go to one to buy for cash? But hey ho - they are only there to sell 30% apr finance deals to the desperate - cold hard cash would defo scare the vultures...

The turnaround in these places is awesome - the salesmen have a limited amount of time to spend per customer.
What they expect you to do is go and test drive the car you want at the dealer then walk in to them and say "that one", buy it and walk out.

The one at Billing will haggle after the car has sat around for more than 2 weeks. I pretended not to know what I wanted, we got shown the stock list and picked everything that had been sitting more than 2 weeks. £500 discount was mine on a 2000 Mondeo. (For a friend naturally)

I visited a Jefferies Farm in Crawley. I was looking at a car that I knew had been there 3weeks +, and had been dropped by £500 recently. So I tried to do a bit of a deal.
The salesman just lied to me and was generally unpleasant, so I walked.
Got exactly the same car, albeit younger and less miles, for 12% cheaper at Motorpoint in Derby. Downside was having to go to Derby, but I won't be bullshi**ed by some little ****** in a cheap suit
Some car supermarkets really are good prices, some look like supermarkets but the prices don't match !!!
Do your homework.
